I just saw Inside Out yesterday, and that's the most I've cried all year. I cried during "Lava," when Riley started becoming more detached from her family, seeing her family memories, when BingBong died, and when she came back home. Did you try to turn off your computer and "trick" the program Pages into thinking some file history was going to be deleted? So I took my little nephew to go see Inside Out, and overall I liked it. The good: Nobody beats Pixar in the concepts department, and they are in top form here. The way they can take abstract things like feelings and memory and create characters and worlds and stories is incredible ... just to see things all of these abstract things given form is in itself worth the admission. The dialogue is also really clever and there are lots of really funny moments. but... *adds more in the next comment* Posted over a year ago
UnholyNoise commented…
The bad: As with a lot of other Pixar movies, I feel like they do better with concepts than with characterization -- I couldn't really get into any of the characters (not even Riley); I liked them better as ideas than people. And there's the familiar Pixar "we are trying to teach you something; every moment of this movie is going to be deep" vibe that kind of smothers the storytelling -- I don't dislike learning, duh, but the way it's done here reminds me of Wall-E. Very slick and inorganic and not a little self-important. But I think it's worth seeing at least once and I'm glad I did. over a year ago

I'm not crazy about Wall-E or Up so I get what you are saying about them trying to be deep all the time but I didn't feel that with this film. I know this might be a minor moment in the movie Brave but when I was watching it while on my road trip, one part actually really made me mad and no one else seems to talk about it, it might just be nitpicking. Since Inside Out, car out with the personification of emotions. What things would you like to see personified anthromorphically that haven't been yet? By that I'm not talking about animals, I'm talking about actual things like emotions, seasons, nations, good/evil, gems, and so on. I'd love to see the 12 months personified and the zodiac signs. I'm back from seeing Inside Out, and if you haven't seen it yet I really recommend that you do! I thought it was a really great, emotional movie — seriously, I cried at least five times. It's definitely one of Pixar's best, and has the same creative spirit that makes their movies so good. It wasn't exactly a typical plot, since it didn't have a villain or anything like that, but I was still kept invested the entire time. Posted over a year ago
sarchasm commented…
The characters were all great too — I loved all of the emotions, although my favorite was probably Anger, and the voice acting was really great. I did feel like they could have explored the real-world plotlines way more than they did, but it was still an A+ movie imo. I went to see it with my Disney-hating sister, who mockingly called it "The Feelings Movie" on our way to the theatre and who still maintains that she hated it, but I saw her laugh and cry all throughout the film, so I know she must not have hated it as much as she claimed. over a year ago

I just got back from seeing Inside Out and I can honestly say that it's the most emotional of all the Pixar movies, especially since it's about emotions. It's really complex and dynamic yet still simple enough to follow. The animation is gorgeous and I love how it is able to capture the realistic look of the real world but also have a very cartoony and fun look for the emotions world. So, for lack of a better term, the animation has "the best of both worlds." *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

The characters are all really likable. I mean, Fear, Anger, and Disgust do annoy me a little bit but they're still pretty likable and only do what they do because they care about Riley and want to protect her and make her happy. I feel like, from what I've seen of fans so far, that I'm the only one who loves Joy. I feel like she's the most layered out of all of them and she does really develop and learn to accept other emotions. Plus, she's not doing what she does out of selfishness like Merida did, she's doing it because she just wants to save Riley emotionally. Sadness is also a great character and she really helps even out Joy's optimism with her pessimism. Riley is also a likable character because you really see what she's going through. She's not just a blank slate like Andy from Toy Story or a plot device like Penny from Bolt, you really get to feel her emotional struggle, a lot like you do with Odette from The Swan Princess. Plus she has a very likable personality. over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
It's just a brilliant movie and it's Pixar's best since Toy Story 3. Cars 2 is AWFUL, Brave is mediocre, and Monsters University is good but not fantastic. This felt like Pixar again and is now my third favorite Pixar movie after Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3. It's a MUCH better introduction to a female Pixar protagonist than Brave was. The only thing Brave did better was that I like Merida and Elinor's relationship more than Joy and Sadness (which was still great) and I like the more realistic and detailed animation in Brave than I do in Inside Out. Overall, it's a brilliant movie with a lot of emotion to it (no pun intended) that I HIGHLY recommend you RUSH to the movie theatre to see. over a year ago

So I watched Brave again tonight, and every-time I see it, I love the movie more and more. I was wondering, what does everyone on this club not like about it? If you don't like Brave, what about it don't you like? Posted over a year ago
wavesurf commented…
It's a hot and cold movie. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. But in the beginning, I really hated it. I felt it was trying to discredit all of the Disney princesses of yore, by saying that "independent" women who are single are better because of their singleness. The treatment of the men in Brave as either comic relief or dumba**es didn't help me feel better. I thought depicting men as incompetent and just a bunch of macho with 'the burn to kill," was heavy-handed. By making the guys seem so dumb, the women seemed "intelligent" by contrast, so... this still makes me feel "eh" about the movie. But at least they made Merida and Elinor fleshed out characters. Merida used to be my least favorite for a while, before I joined Fanpop. over a year ago

I hate to start a fight but why it is okay for a woman to save a man but not okay for a man to save a woman? I think that is hypocritical & sexist. This post was inspired by Mongoose09's defense of the classic princesses article. Posted over a year ago
Aang_Lite commented…
The problem isn't that men can't save women, but that it's assumed in a lot of older movies that these ladies have no other choice than to be saved. For a good amount of western history, the perfect woman was a small, demure, virgin girl who would never hurt a fly. Now there's nothing wrong with that per say, but if you follow that description of a woman to a tee, there isn't much room left for defending yourself. And as a result, it's assumed that you don't have the capability to defend yourself, making women less agent beings, and more objects to be acted upon. So to answer your question, having a man save a woman isn't wrong, but we can't ignore the history of women subjugation either. over a year ago

I want to get into the water (which I do) but I don't stay long because I'm usually alone and sometimes I just don't wanna play babysitter (though the kids are usually my best bet at having any kind of interaction with anyone in the water), when the adults in my group get in the pool they just stand around talking like complete bores, get out a few minutes later to get a tan, I get mored and just go back to the room, we go out to eat, and that's all there is. It's not that I don't enjoy the beach but considering my only interactions are with my 7 year old niece, there is only so much I can do, especially since she usually finds kids her age to play with. I wish our vacations could have more variety and that we would do more than just go to the beach. I saw Mad Max: Fury Road finally. I don't normally like action movies but I loved it, especially the female characters. I'm just posting this here because they remind me of some Disney characters:
Furiosa- Calhoun, the tough, dedicated female leader with a tragic side.
Splendid- Cinderella, the sandy-haired, warm, brave optimistic leader of the girls (since Cinderella is the official leader).
Capable- Anna, the brave 'heart' of the group and forgiving.
(continued) Posted over a year ago
AudreyFreak commented…
Toast- Gogo, the silent, snarky, short tough girl. Dag- a bit of Lilo, the quirky, observant one with some of Pocahontas' interest in nature and silent strength. Cheedo- Aurora and Elsa both, the tall, long haired, delicate, sheltered girl who relies on the others for support. Excellent cast, I recommend it! I might have to write an article now. over a year ago

I think it's fine. I read most of the books on the "Action/ Adventure" list when I was a little girl. These were stories with strong female heroines. I think it's a good idea, and a good selection. One of my personal favorites was The Old Kingdom Triology by Garth Nix. His major characters were all females. STRONG females. I loved Sabriel and Lirael. over a year ago

@wavesurf They sure are! I agree with what you said about sparkly dresses. I like Walt era princesses but if there was something to criticize about them is that their personalities aren't as developed as latter princesses but they are from a different a time. over a year ago

Yeah. the days of Disney actually telling story through a cartoon and CARING about the result are gone. Sure, the movie is bombastic, it's rushed, and it stops making sense 10 minutes in, but if you advertise the hell out of it everywhere--- you will convince everybody how wonderful it is! And let's declare anything "older Disney" behind the times, and irrelevant. Yep. I can understand why I don't like Modern Disney movies, the vast majority of their characters, or the "preachy," beat-you-over-the-head content. I so agree with the guy's assessment in the video. Not to point fingers at anyone, this is just something I've noticed throughout the internet, especially with youtube comments I've seen in arguments I tend not to get into. But are people so stupid that they can't figure out that what a person says in just their opinion and they're not claiming it as a fact? Do they honestly need people to put "in my opinion" at the end of a sentence in order to know it's just their opinion? I should think people are smarter than this, especially on Fanpop. Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
This has been known to happen sometimes on Fanpop and I have been in those kinds of fights on Fanpop, but for the most part, this website is pretty good with this and a lot of other websites are like this. over a year ago
324anna commented…
^ True, but I think that it's usually quite obvious from the way you phrase your opinion/"fact". over a year ago
POTATOlivia commented…
It all depends on what they said. Sometimes people who are just honestly are expressing their opinion just get hated on intensely, then the people who present their opinion as fact basically start flame wars. Even still it still depends on what the opinion is, rather it's morally, physically or objectively disagreeing I think that only sometimes is it okay and not okay to present your opinion as a fact. And you can always assume if it comes out of someone's mouth that it's most likely opinion, especially if it's on a subject that people have different opinions for it. BUT I absolutely hate when I say something about my opinion and people feel threatened by it as if I mean it as an absolute fact, it's even happened with DP lists. over a year ago
JNTA1234 said …
Do you guys think people put really popular princesses low on their list out of spite? Swanpride said that may be why Pocahontas made into Fanpop's top three because people want to give a "take that" to the popular princesses. I know people just like what they like and they shouldn't have to explain themselves but I can't help feeling thrown off if I see someone with, for example, Ariel, Belle and Mulan as their bottom three. A few months ago I mentioned that Disney was making a live-action Cruella De Vil movie and... yeah I did roll my eyes at that, especially after Maleficent. However, I did find out one thing about the movie that makes me just A LITTLE BIT more openminded about the movie. The executive producer of the movie is Glenn Close, who played Cruella in the live-action remakes, so she gives me some hope that they'll portray her faithfully enough, since Glenn did capture her character perfectly. Would you like to show me where exactly in his responses do you see him "attacking" Aang_Lite? Because I don't see it.
