I saw The Lion King yesterday with a friend. She was reacting to it like she had never seen the original before and at same time predicting the next word in the script before it was said. She was happy with it, she thought it was lovely. I agreed with her with hesitation. I thought it was a little too realistic, I barely laughed once during the film. I disliked the uncensored fart joke. Although the cubs were cute. The lions looked too similar. I preferred the individual different looks in the Posted over a year ago

original movie. To show their difference in personality. Different colours as well. The scene about how Simba’s hair reaching Rafiki was stretched too long. Whatever happened the mournful yet lightly spiritual scene from the original? I would’ve much preferred a colours of wind like sequence than what I watched. over a year ago
PrincessAyeka12 commented…
IMO Rafiki should have had subtitles when he wasn’t speaking English. Scar wasn’t evilly dramatic or elegant enough. Mufasa’s death wasn’t powerful enough. I was disappointed. Such an important scene gone to waste. I disliked the tone and shortening of Be Prepared. I did like the hyena scenes, I just they had focused on the main three more. Those three got more dialogue in the original movie. My favourite scenes were cut from the remake. And the thing that bothered me to most was the fact that Can you feel the love tonight was visually shown in the daytime! over a year ago

Not a serious post, just my curiosity over something minor. So people keep saying that the original Little Mermaid was green. Was she? I read HCA’s The Little Mermaid, but I don’t recall that being mentioned. Maybe it’s been so long that I don’t remember, or it could’ve gotten lost in translation. Anyway, just wondering if anyone can confirm that. Posted over a year ago

The Lion King and Aladdin remakes have 53% and 56% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. (that's not good for those who don't know) Is it wrong that I'm lowkey satisfied that critics are getting sick of these movies? Posted over a year ago

I just saw The Lion King and I have to say...I liked Aladdin MUCH more. The Lion King had a great cast, the singing and songs were amazing, we got to see more of Nala and Sarabi, and Scar and the hyenas were great villains. But here’s some issues; the animals were like :| the entire time (except Scar and kinda the hyenas). And no one say animals don’t show reactions because not only is that false, we’ve gotten emotion from cgi animals in the past so this movie doesn’t have an excuse Posted over a year ago
BB2010 commented…
Oh and because I didn’t hear anything about it and was my biggest problem with this movie; we see poop in this movie. And it’s supposed to be during an important scene so I wasn’t really amused. And there’s more farting in this movie. Ik in the original there’s fart jokes but it wasn’t so in your face before. Heck when I was a kid I thought the joke was Pumbaa just stunk, I didn’t know he had gas until I was in my late teen over a year ago

But despite all the good things about this movie I just... i felt bored for a lot of it. I had fun watching the musical numbers (and you know I sang along), some scenes were very well done, and the climax was actually great but the movie didn’t have the same magic as the original did. And it’s not even just because The Lion King is one of my favorite movies, because I had a lot of fun watching Aladdin and Cinderella and The Jungle Book, it just had the same effect on me as Beauty and the Beast did (only with better cgi, acting, and singing). I might watch it again on Disney+ but I feel like watching the original now to cleanse myself over a year ago

I just got back from seeing the live-action version of The Lion King with afew friends. (Last minute movie invitation, FYI.) I know I said I was mad about this film being remade, but after seeing this, I DO have SOME good reviews. I thought Beyonce was fantastic as Nala, I thought Seth Rogen was fantastic as Pumbaa, and I thought James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa was EPIC. There ain't no damn question about that! *Continues in the comments.* Posted over a year ago

I also like how they stayed true to the original songs. THAT was a BIG plus for me. (Yeah, they DID change the beat to one of them, but I won't say which one because of those who haven't seen the remake yet.) All in all, I couldn't help but tap my foot to a couple of the songs, but I made sure to keep it down because I didn't want to disturb a fellow friend I sat by and the other movie goers. over a year ago
mhs1025 commented…
Now, onto the bad reviews. They didn't say the whole script word for word like the original, but I guess that just comes with live-action remakes. Oh yeah, they also left a BIG part of the movie, and I think the people who saw the remake will know what I'm talking about because I was FUMING!!! (If Y'ALL caught it, I bet y'all were mad as hell as well.) I also feel like they changed some of the script. Some of those were good, while were just BAD. (One of them being the word for word thing, as I mention earlier. They kinda changed some of the words up, in which I HATE!!!) Plus, there were some parts where I thought *I f***ing knew they were gonna mess this up...*. Okay, they DIDN'T really mess it up, but the script should've never been tampered with. They should've left it alone. over a year ago

I just got back from seeing Toy Story 4 and my opinion on it will be an unpopular one. I know a lot of people love it but I thought it was just average. The animation is gorgeous, the "antagonist" is great, and it did have some good emotional moments. However, the characters felt out of character in A LOT of the movie, the characters we know and love are barely even there, the new characters (Apart from the "antagonist") is either annoying or unmemorable,

I liked that Bo Peep was back and they gave her more layers to her character but she also felt a bit of character in some parts to that point where it was annoying (I didn't even care much for her to begin with, though I do like her more in this movie), it basically acted like the lessons from the past movies meant nothing, there aren't that many jokes that are really that funny, Forky was pretty much pointless and his storyline added nothing (Other than questions on how in the world he was even alive), it repeats things done from the past three movies (Which were done MUCH better in the past three movies), and really was an unnecessary film in general that didn't need to exist. The third movie was the PERFECT ending and this movie basically just disrespected that. over a year ago

After the new Ariel casting people have been trying to use science as they’re reasoning for why a mermaid couldn’t be black (especially not a mermaid who had green skin in the original story) and Disney’s response was “Ariel...is a mermaid” Best response ever. Posted over a year ago
AudreyFreak commented…
But then logically, why not just make a different mermaid movie? Also, I really dislike Disney and fans' cherry picking, hypocritical arguments. Changing Ariel's appearance so much bc mermaid they're fine with (and actually if it does take place in the Caribbean it kinda does) but not fairy tale characters having fairy tale romances? They wanna have their cake and eat it too. over a year ago
BB2010 commented…
Im fine with whatever race Ariel is I’m just annoyed that in a movie filled with mermaids, a villain who is half octopus, and fish playing instruments people are trying to get science involved. And I’m a little annoyed that people are using the “use a real redhead” argument despite the fact that 1. Hair color isn’t the same as race 2. There’s been plenty of movies out there where redheads are played by blondes and no one cared and 3. Ariel was originally going to be blonde but the writers didn’t want her to look similar to the mermaid from Splash so this isn’t the first time Ariel has had to go through an appearance change. Maybe Disney will make a different story in this remake like the Brandi Cinderella or the Mulan live action, or maybe it will be the same. If people have reservations about this new Ariel then okay but I just hope that if they meet someone who is stoked to have a black Ariel they won’t attack that person just for being excited over a year ago

Hi everyone! Hi everyone! It's been a while. So, I saw Aladdin a month ago. Anyways, seeing the discussion about the actress chosen to play Ariel lead me to think that I could share my thoughts on Naomi Scott who was casted as Jasmine. I think Disney missed out on representing women who actually look like Jasmine, with her large nose and tan skin, something that's already considered an imperfection in the cultures that Disney referenced in Aladdin. Let me explain further. (1/?) Posted over a year ago
hajirah4 commented…
Having a deep tan myself, I have personal experience with colourism in the Persian community. It was more subtle, in ways that I would get encouraged to wear more sunscreen, and old women would say that my only flaw was my skin. I couldn't help but notice how the light-skinned women in my family were complimented for just that. (2/?) over a year ago
hajirah4 commented…
It hurt, because I was very pale as a child and my skin just naturally got darker as I aged. I never truly detested the way I looked or lacked outward confidence but a small part of me would have chosen to look paler, and I was mad that I didn't have a choice in regards to my complexion. The one woman that was (sort of?) from my culture in the media, and looked like me that wasn't Hispanic, was Jasmine. And she was considered gorgeous in Aladdin. Nobody cared when I was young and innocent, but the older I got the more people took notice of my complexion. (3/?) over a year ago

Melissa McCarthy is rumored to be in talks of playing Ursula in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Any thoughts on that? She is a great actress and she can sing. She actually sang the song Anything You Can Do and sung it with Barbra Streisand. She's definitely a better choice for Ursula than Zendaya is for Ariel. PLEASE Disney, DON'T cast Zendaya as Ariel! Anyway, what are y'alls thoughts on the possibility of Melissa McCarthy playing Ursula? Posted over a year ago

No offense. I'm just "whatever." I used to care before it became obvious that the only thing Disney was doing was "re-doing the entire personalities" of all of their predecessor princesses ( though Cinderella escaped this somewhat). I don't really want to see anymore remakes, especially those featuring DPs. Disney annoyed me after remake Jasmine only wanted her political power. What's next? After time on land, Ariel dislikes Eric and goes back to the ocean to live, because that's what the ultra-feminists want? No, thanks. over a year ago

Alright guys, I just got back from seeing Toy Story 4, and, all I have to say is...WOW! Just, WOW! VERY different take on ANY Toy Story film I've seen. Not going into spoilers, but, let's just say Woody gets treated like crap. (THAT was just a debriefing.) The ending, though-I might've cried. In fact, be prepared to have your heartstrings pulled for that one! While the ending is fairly somber, it DID teach me something. (Continues in the comments.) Posted over a year ago
mhs1025 commented…
Over the past few months, my mental state hasn't been in a good place. After I saw the fourth Toy Story, it taught/showed me that you sometimes have to let go of certain things or people in order to start the next chapter in your life. It also taught/showed me that life is too short to be caught up in your own motions. You have to learn how to shut down the demons in your head. You also have to learn how to overcome your hardships in order to make something of yourself. To anyone going through a hardship right now, just remember-you're a gift to this world. Showcase your talents, push yourself to the fullest, and don't EVER give up yourself, no matter how hard things in your life get. over a year ago

Something I'd like to add really quick is this countdown is about comparing remakes with remakes, not remakes with originals so for this countdown we need to treat these movies as standalone movies and decide based on how much you like the characters because of what they do in the remakes, not what they do in the originals or sequels over a year ago

Binge watching Frasier on Netflix for the second time has me saying English sayings like "SOD OFF", "BELT UP", and "Grumpy old sod" because if how much I love Daphne Moon. And for those who don't know what those sayings mean, "SOD OFF" basically means buzz off, "BELT UP" basically means shut up, and a "sod" is what you call someone you're annoyed with and find unpleasant, mostly associated with grumpy old men.

Let me just say one thing. At the end of the day, Tiana, Merida, Anna, Elsa, Moana and their respective films were all, to varying degrees, made for people who DON'T like Disney. You don't even have to look into the behind the scenes stuff, it's obvious when you just watch the films. Even Lindsay Ellis' crazy ass sees it. So, of course Disney fans aren't gonna like those films/characters and the fact they get to stand shoulder to shoulder with the very same characters/films they're undermining. Posted over a year ago
JNTA1234 commented…
It's like I've said before, people don't like to be patronized and antagonized for liking what they like! Y'all can say it's nostalgia bias but clearly that's not the only reason, otherwise Rapunzel and Tangled would be disliked and unpopular too but they're not. Geez, I wonder why? over a year ago
JNTA1234 commented…
I LOVE Tiana but I have to accept the fact that fundamental aspects of her character and her film spit in the face of something Disney fans love. Lmao, that's a bit of an overdramatic and oversimplified way of putting it but it's valid and it's perfectly understandable why she's not well liked among fans. over a year ago
BB2010 commented…
Personally I try to just enjoy the movies as long as they’re actually good. I don’t mind the Frozen sisters, Tiana, or Moana but they’re movies are just okay compared to the other princess movies. I would like Merida but after all the stuff she does in her movie I can’t bring myself to like her and I have a hard time enjoying Brave because it reminds me too much of Brother Bear. I wouldn’t mind the remake princesses if the writers didn’t try so hard to make them “better” than the originals over a year ago

I just got back from seeing the live-action Aladdin movie and here are my SPOILER-FREE thoughts on it. I thought it was great! It's nowhere near as good as the original and isn't as good as some other live-action remakes like BATB, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book but it's still great. The musical numbers aren't as energized but they do their own original things with the song and are still entertaining, the acting is great (Especially Will Smith and Naomi Scott)

*CONTINUES TO TYPE IN COMMENTS* Posted over a year ago

Jasmine is actually more fleshed out in this movie and a better character that is more active in the story, Jasmine is actually wanting to help the people of Agrabah and to be a great leader, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott have great chemistry, the singing is good (Especially from Naomi), Speechless NEEDS to win best original song at the Oscars, the visuals are gorgeous, the CGI (In my opinion) is pretty good, the action is fun, it's funny, and Will Smith was the perfect person to play the Genie (Only Robin Williams could've done a better job). But there were problems I had with it. over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Aladdin is a good character but isn't nearly as enjoyable as the animated character, Iago was disappointing, it really pales in comparison to the original and isn't as creative (Though still fairly creative), and the actor they got for Jafar was REALLY miscast! I like what they did with Jafar writing-wise because it shows a contrast with Aladdin, but the actor isn't intimidating or menacing AT ALL. He is the only actor that did a poor job. They should've cast Naveen Andrews, who already did a phenomenal job as Jafar in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Overall, I can't say that this movie is for everyone. I'd say the critical reaction, for the most part (Some things critics have said are overblown), is accurate. I think it's great but I can see, to an extent, why someone wouldn't but it's not bad by any means. It's definitely not awful like Maleficent or Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movies and is a lot more creative than Dumbo. But check it out for yourself and judge. over a year ago

I saw a list of major changes made to the remake and I have to say not all of them are that bad. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory all I can say is Jasmine’s reason for going to the marketplace will be different, Jafar and Aladdin’s meeting is going to be different, and Jasmine will be more political (I think that’s the right word) Posted over a year ago

Critics are saying the plot is subpar and the Genie wasn’t that great in this one but Jasmine stole the show. I think I might check this movie out! over a year ago

I know critics aren't always right (seriously how did Rotten Tomatoes give Sausage Party 100%??) and there's some who are incredibly biased (Lindsey Ellis) and there's movies I absolutely love because of nostalgia reasons critics dislike but if it's not just critics but dozens to hundreds of viewers who voice their opinion am I really supposed to disregard it immediately? If it's one or two people then, yes, I would decide to see for myself if I'd like it or not but, again, dozens of people (both regular viewers and critics) having similar opinions? Of course I'm going to be hesitant to spend money I don't have a lot of or trying to pick a day that works for both me and my husband to see a movie I don't even know for sure I'll like over a year ago
