This is the summary chart for 2014. We have a total of 632 songs that appeared on our weekly Soompi Music Chart. A total of 30 songs hit No. 1 this year. Five artists had two No. 1 songs: Ailee, Girl’s Day, A Pink, BEAST, and SISTAR. There are a lot of competition, but at the end we have runaway winners on both the top artist and top song category, and they are crowned chart champions of 2014.

CHART CHAMPION ARTIST:
The busiest K-pop artist in 2014 is definitely IU. She has four solo top 10 hits, including the No. 1 song “Friday,” and also “My Old Story,” “Meaning Of You,” and “Sogyeokdong.” Technically, three of IU’s four solo hit songs also featured another artist, or in the case of “Sogyeokdong,” promoting for another artist. For chart calculation purpose, we considered those her solo hits. In addition, she had three other true collaborations. Her duet list include “Spring, Love Or Cherry Blossom” with HIGH4, “Anxious Heart” with Ulala Session, and “When Would It Be” with Yoon Hyun Sang; all three songs were also top 10 hits. In total, IU has seven top 10 hits in 2014, more than any other artists. She deserves to...

Singer IU recently revealed herself to be a big fan of actor Song Il Gook’s triplet sons—Dae Han, Min Gook, and Man Se—awarding them with the title of ‘Nation’s Younger Brothers.’

On the December 20 broadcast of KBS’ “Entertainment Weekly,” cameras followed IU to the set of her advertisement shoot for a popular soju brand, where she also took part in an interview for the entertainment news program.

During the interview, IU was asked to name a ‘Nation’s Younger Brother,’ for which she chose the “Superman Returns’ triplets.

The singer explained her love for the adorable triplets, saying, “When I see them, they’re so cute. I think everyone would be able to acknowledge them as the ‘Nation’s Younger Brothers.’”

The reporter then asked which one of the triplets is her favorite, to which IU responded, “It’s really hard to choose, but if I had to choose just one out of them…Daehan. He seems really mature. But of course, all three triplets are adorable.”

We hang out at least once a week and at most, 8-9 times a week. We meet up with each other so often that those around us ask if we're dating."

As the nation's little sister, she gave the nation's little brother award to the 'triplets' aka Song Il Kook's triplets. She shared, "When I watch them, they're so cute. I think that everyone would agree on this nation's little brother award." When asked, "This is a funny question but among Dae Han, Min Guk, and Man Se, who is closest to your style?", IU shared, "Dae Han. He's so mature."

Even diehard fans will admit that it's tough to find an entire K-pop album worthy of being labelled brilliant from start to finish. But there were a select group of artists who proved the notion wrong with cohesive bodies of work in 2014.

10. Rain - Rain Effect
The K-pop veteran's first release since being discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service, Rain showed how to make a comeback people would pay attention to with a collection of the year's best beats. There were hot singles ("La Song," "30Sexy") and on-point collaborations (HyunA on the zippy "Oppa"), making for a template any star away from the spotlight would be wise to use.

9. CNBLUE - Can't Stop
A release that could get even a K-pop skeptic's head bobbing, tracks like "Can't Stop" and the Coldplay-esque "Like a Child" are some of the most accessible Korean rock tunes to come out of the scene this year. Meanwhile, the album gets deeper into the scene with cuts like the gritty ballad "Cold Love" and feisty rock jam "Diamond Girl."

K-pop fans may remember 2014 as a dramatic, and at times heartbreaking, year. Members left groups fans envisioned them in for years, tragedy struck the live scene and the dark sides of the industry were brought to light in the wake of mourning one of the scene's most promising acts. But there's a shining light when fans recall what first attracted them to K-pop -- the music.

Drama aside, South Korean music remained stronger than ever this year with everyone from domestic legends to adorable newcomers all proving that they had something to offer our ears. Like in 2012 and 2013, the Billboard staff once again sifted through the charts and beyond to bring the 20 songs that break language barriers, push conventional music boundaries and best highlight all the K-pop scene has to offer.

20. Apink - "Luv"
The sweet girl group's latest single keeps their signature bright melodies, but adds a drop of melancholy in their voices as they long for a lost love. The complexity of the track is upped with its peppy, bubblegum-pop production at times waxing nostalgic on '90s hip-hop tracks -- think early hits by Will Smith and TLC.

Singer IU is becoming one of Korea’s most sought-after stars among the makers of commercials.
The star has recently been chosen to advertise a popular brand of soju (an alcoholic beverage popular in Korea), following in the footsteps of some of the “hottest” stars in Korea, such as Lee Hyori.
According to an article published by media outlet OSEN, however, the star currently has four advertising contracts with companies, and is now negotiating over a possible three more deals. The article calls IU a “CF Queen”, or a “Queen of Commercials.”

And it seems that IU is not only in great demand from advertisers, but also from the makers of television drama series and movies. OSEN reports that the singer is currently looking through scripts for both movies and dramas. In fact, the makers of many dramas that are currently on air have spoken to IU about the possibility of appearing in their series.

It appears that IU’s popularity among television producers and advertisers has not distracted her from her music career, however, as the star has three songs in the 2014 Gaon Music Chart Top 10. IU has placed at Number 5, Number 7, and Number...

Yes, IU's H&M dress was cheaper than Kang So Ra's MAMA gown.

Following the news of Kang's $39 H&M gown, belated information about IU's lovely frock hit media outlets today.

On November 13, theYou're The Best, Lee Soon Shin actress wore a custom-made $31 dress from H&M to the 2014 Melon Music Awards. The originally $25 off-the-rack piece was custom made for IU. Specifically, the dress was shortened, rectangular cut outs were covered, and it was fit perfectly for the "You and I" singer.

Singer IU is currently gaining attention for the dress she wore to an awards ceremony last month.

After actress Kang So Ra was put into the spotlight for wearing an affordable dress from H&M to the 2014 MAMA ceremony on December 3, it has belatedly been revealed that IU’s dress worn to the 2014 Melon Music Awards (MMA) costs even less!

From the same brand as Kang So Ra’s off-the-shoulder blue lace dress that costs 39,000 KRW (approximately $35 USD), IU’s floral-print chiffon dress costs 35,000 KRW (approximately $31 USD).

Last month, on November 13, IU made her appearance at the 2014 MMA red carpet dressed in a beautiful floral-print dress. However, at the time, the singer’s dress did not become much of a hot topic, as no one would have guessed it to be such an affordable price for a large public event like MMA.

IU customized the original H&M design by making a few adjustments: the rectangular cut-outs were covered up and the length of the dress was shortened in the front, creating a high-low style that is fitting for her own body. The dress can be purchased at H&M for about $25.

It was recently confirmed that actress Kang So Ra was rocking a $30 USD 'H&M' branded dress at the '2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards,' garnering much attention to her rather prudent choices.

However, it seems as though IU was actually the first to wear an affordably priced dress on the red carpet as she was seen wearing a dress from H&M at '2014 Melon Music Awards' held back in November 12. The dress was reported to have cost around $30 USD as well. The flowy dress decorated with flower prints can be found on H&M for $24.95 USD.

And to give a little twist to the dress, the artist made a slight modification to the original design so that it would compliment her figure.

Representatives of 'H&M' revealed to DongA, "We are currently holding sponsorship programs, focusing much on top celebrities such as Kang So Ra, IU, and Lee Hyori. Current celebrities are looking for sponsors that coincide more with their style and preference than the prices of the product."
