Being a Woman Question

I spend 5 hours in the bath and I use 3-4 shower gels in just a week, is that normal?

I'm a hygiene freak!

No, it's not normal and it's not very healthy.

It should only take a maximum of 15 minutes to wash off any dirt from your skin.

The skin has a very thin outer layer called the stratum corneum. It's composed of a layer of dead skin cells. It's needed to protect the underlying layers which contain all the vitamins, lipids, and living cells.
When you bathe so much, you're washing this outer layer off. Without the stratum corneum, you have less protection from sun rays and normally harmless airborne bacteria.

It's a bigger issue than just dry skin. You may actually be more susceptible to sunburn and rashes, and any other irritant. Some studies even show that without this outer layer of skin, you're putting yourself at a higher risk of skin cancer.

15 minutes should be good enough. The occasional hour long bath for relaxation is fine, but don't make it a regular thing.

You might want to look into possibly having OCD.

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to follow up with. If you can switch over to a normal routine without any problems, you probably don't have OCD - but if it causes you a lot of grief, that may be a sign of a problem. See a doctor either way! This is not normal behavior

You spend 5 hours in a total of seven days? How big are the shower gel containers that you're going through?

Nooo 5 hours a day, and they're medium sized about 200 or more ml

Probably not. I don't think you need that much product to get clean, and you run the risk of drying out or otherwise irritating your skin.

I moisturize loads though to make sure my skin doesn't get really dry

What about the expense? For the shower gels alone that would be around $20 a week here.

Sometimes it's 3 hours or less

Does that time include doing hair and make-up after you bathe?

i dont think so. (i spend alot of time doing hair and make up, depending on where im going of course, but i dont think a couple hours is too unreasonable for that...)

True! And my family thinks my taking about 30 min to get ready is excessive...
