Reading some of the comments, I realized there's much thing that people are wrong about princesses, well, at least I think they're wrong, so in association with princesslullaby, JonnaSe, lepetitsouris and CureDiana I tried to cover them as objective as possible. Snow White

*She is stupid (for taking the apple, running away, going into a stranger's house...)

It's unfair making such a big deal out of it considering other princess didworse things.

princesslullaby: first of all, SHE doesn't know the apple is bewitched, secondly, people call her stupid for wishing on an apple. THE DAMN WISHING WELL WORKED
cromulanfav: Pocahontas and Tiana did dumber things. Like Tiana kissed the frog.
princesslullaby: yeah, a TALKING FROG
cromulanfav: and she trusted Louis and mama Oddie. And Poca went with Smith.
JonnaSe: PUNZ IS EVEN MORE STUPID
princesslullaby: Punz is the stupidest
JonnaSe: SHE GOES WITH A STRANGER AND A THIEF! SHE'S GONNA SPEND A WHOLE DAY WITH HIM
JonnaSe: Snow is just eating an apple
CuteDiana: And Punz might have the best knowlege
JonnaSe: I think the only reason she eats the apple is because she wants to be nice to the old lady.
cromulanfav: She just has good manners.


*I hate her because her voice is high pitched and annoying

WTF?! Seriously, this disqualifies as a reason. It's plain shallow. And I seriously don't know which movie people watched because Snow's voice is definitely not that high pitched that it merges on being annoying.

JonnaSe: STUPID REASON! THAT IS SUCH A STUPID REASON!
CuteDiana: then I would EASILY hate Belle.
JonnaSe: It´s a special voice that I think really fits for her.

Cinderella

*She should have ran away
There is two main reasons why she should't:

A)She would really be without anything and without anyone out there, she couldn't really survive on her own.
B)princesslullaby: Cinderella won't leave that house! Its the house she grew up in with her father, come on!

She's too passive (she allow people to treat her bad...)

princesslullaby: She doesn't like to hurt people's feelings.
cromulanfav: She's too classy to act otherwise
princesslullaby: again, she's taught to love and respect her parents, and she thinks this is the woman her father loves.
JonnaSe: She doesn´t take bullshit, she knows that "this is as good as it gets". Plus, she belives in karma. If you are good to the others, the good will return.

Aurora

*She doesn't have enough personality because she was in movie only 18 minutes

Well, the main argument against this is that Jasmine's in the movie for 22 minutes, so yeah, the time can't be really used as a reason.

JonnaSe: Give any of the other princesses 18 mins. Would they still feel like the main character?

Ariel

*She's stupid and selfish for leaving her family for a guy she doesn't know

A)Everyone leaves their family at some point
B)Previous three princesses did pretty much the same. They married their princes right away. It was simply true love. It's Disney. At least Ariel had few valid reasons to believe Eric is good.


CuteDiana: she's not selfish, not a bad selfish
cromulanfav: yeah, she's just not selfless. I would LOVE to leave my family for my dreams, even though if i don't know what's waiting for me
lepetitsouris: I don't understand the big deal of her leaving was. She wasn't first in line for the crown. She didn't have a responsibility to take over.
princesslullaby: If i had a chance to accomplish a dream, my greatest dream, but it was a really slim chance, i would still take it. I think accomplishing a dream is much more important than staying with your family.
cromulanfav: I don't see why would anyone stay with family.Everyone has to go once.
JonnaSe: And she is obviously unhappy there.
CuteDiana: no no please, we should all stay with them until they die, or we die.
princesslullaby: She has to leave eventually.And then people say "well, she didn't succeed in the end". Ariel knew she might not succeed, she KNEW IT, the point was she took the chance.

Bele

*I can relate to her because she reads and she's odd

Belle maybe is relatable, but seriously, not because of this.

CuteDiana: OMG.You're stupid that's why you're odd.
cromulanfav: It's 21 century, being literate is nothing special
CuteDiana: I know yeah, actually nowadays it' cool to be odd and outcast.
princesslullaby: they like her, they don't make fun of her or anything, or outcast her
CuteDiana: No and they think that she's really beautiful and everybody likes her.
JonnaSe: But they dedicate the opening song on how "odd" she is.
princesslullaby: yes, but in a good way
cromulanfav: they admire her
princesslullaby: yeah, when they're saying she's odd, they're all smiling. Look when they watch her in the bookshop
lepetitsouris:And I don't think Belle thinks of herself as odd.


*She's smart because she reads

CuteDiana: PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT
JonnaSe: She isn´t intelligent
princesslullaby: COME ON, she is reading equivalent of twilight novels!
cromulanfav: Omg, she reads romance
princesslullaby: AND ITS A PICTURE BOOK LOL
CuteDiana: my friend reads romance and her IQ is like 0.

In the end we concluded she is smart, smarter then people from her village anyway, just, it's not because she reads.

*She's so brave and selfless for trading herself for her father's freedom

Now, we're not trying to deny she is, just, it's not that special. The thing with Belle is that her situation is completely different than Ariel's. She doesn't have anything else in this world but her father. She doesn't have any goals in her life. She sings about wanting something, but she doesn't know what. So when she takes her father's place, she doesn't really loose much because in her case, she's not using her freedom anyway.

princesslullaby: Now, wouldn't YOU trade places with the person you love most? only person you have? I think 90% of people would trade lives with the person they love the most, thing that is most important ot them, so I dont think it's so brave.

Jasmine

*She's mean

Seriously she's the nicest person in that movie. Everyone was mean to her, so she had to respond in the same manner. Mean = telling bad people things they deserved? I don't think so.

JonnaSe: Because she has "attitude"?
princesslullaby:She lives in a society where she has restraints and pressures, she has no choice but to yell her opinions, its actually the smartest thing to do, its whats kept people from totally dominating her.If she tried to express her opinions calmly and intelligently, no one would listen, look who she's surrounded by!

Pocahontas

*She loses he personality after she meets John Smith

As wise princesslullaby said, Belle would stay with her tribe, Ariel would leave with john Smith. Pocahontas is somewhere in between, she's torn, and that affects her personality. She doesn't loses her personality, she just becomes little mopey.

*She's smart

Eh, there's nothing that indicates she's extraordinary smart. She seems rather lost for the most of the movie.

cromulanfav: She was sitting in the trees and staring at the compass.
lepetitsouris: She needed Grandmother Willow to make all her decisions for her basically.

Well, there really is no significant stereotype about Mulan so we're skipping this one.

Tiana

*She should have more fun and work less

Opinions were divided on this one. Some thought she really needs to loosen up, and some thought she needs to get her restaurant as soon as possible and then have fun, instead of working her whole life.

Rapunzel

Much like in Mulan's case, there isn't much prejudices and stereotypes about Rapunzel either. Perhaps the one that she's not very original and that she's rip-off of Snow White, Ariel or Jasmine, which is rather inaccurate. Her personality isn't like theirs at all, but saying that she doesn't bring much new in Disney Princess line-up is valid point.
