Jarrah and Naruto stayed together in the park for ages. They both knew it was getting extremely late, but they didn’t want to leave each other alone. They sat on the park bench next to each other and talked. They held each other’s hands and didn’t let go. Jarrah and Naruto fell asleep together on the bench, with the smell of flowers wafting in the air and the sound of their hearts beating as one.

It was the second last day of Jarrah’s trip in Tokyo. The bangs were deafening and the booms were surreal. Building crumbled all around Naruto and Jarrah-they couldn’t escape from the shouting...

WORK WORKS WONDERS FOR WACKY WOMAN!

Even though I didn’t have a proper camp, I still enjoyed my time off. The week before, I was seriously stressed out. The tests, the badgering teachers…I had just about enough. Sitting in period six maths was agony. I needed to escape from school and do something different and out of the ordinary. That’s where my job at McDonald’s came in.

Okay, I know what you are thinking! All the stereotypes and news stories say that 21st century workers are “underpaid” and “overworked”. But this isn’t always the case. I get paid $10 an hour for my work....

I see it in Rome,
I see it in Tokyo,
Beautiful land surrounding me,
From here to San Francisco.

The barren deserts,
The sweet, sweet sunsets,
The sweltering streets,
And the smouldering cities.

It’s surrounding me,
Almost consuming me,
I need to escape,
To the wide, wide sea.

There it is!
As big as can be!
With starfish and coral,
And all kinds of things!

All kinds of creatures!
From all kinds of places!
With big pink snouts and tiny faces,
Their diversity gets rid of the land’s spaces!

Creatures and nature,
Lovely and free,
All over the wide, wide land,
As free as can be!
“Jarrah Woods?” “Yeah, that’s me,” Jarrah replied to the officer. “I’m Chief Detective Rezai Aranko from Tokyo Police. I would like to ask you a few questions about Harold Stenson.” “Sure…ok.” Jarrah had no idea what the officer was going on about. “Has Mr Stenson ever mentioned to you that he has a private jet?” “No he hasn’t. Does he have one? That’s so cool!” “Actually, Miss Woods, we have reason to believe that Mr Stenson stole a private jet two weeks ago.” “What? Mr Stenson would never do that!” “Well, we have firm evidence that he did. Can you...

“Hey! Wait up Amber and Jess!” Jarrah yelled. Jessica and Amber stopped and waited for Jarrah. “Do you realise how long you were with Naruto?” Amber said in a quizzical voice. “Um…a while…” Jarrah guessed. “2 hours Jarrah! 2 hours! What on earth were you talking about?” “Stuff…I guess…” “Stuff, huh!? Me and Jessica have been walking around here for 2 hours waiting for you to stop your “conversation” with Naruto! Be a bit more respectful of your friends next time,” Amber yelled. “Look, I’m sorry Amber but me and Naruto got into a really good talk.” “You’re...

The drive to the temple was long and slow. It felt like an eternity! When they eventually got there, they saw an ancient temple (as promised by Mr Stenson). The students were ushered inside by their tour guide Ushu, a middle-aged Japanese woman. They were told by Ushu to be silent inside the temple. They students went inside the temple and saw several carvings of buddas, dragons and priests. Candles lined the walls and floor and the walls were awash with a lovely clay-red colour, but there were lots of shadows covering them. Pictures of nature were scattered on one side of the temple. Jarrah...

“Well look who it is Amber,” said Jessica in a sarcastic tone. Amber ignored her. “Oh my god Jarrah! Are you ok? I was so worried about you!” Amber lunged towards Jarrah and gave her a big hug. “I’m so sorry about what I said at the shops. I was just angry that you dropped us for Naruto. Now I realise that you two are a couple and I can’t stop that. You know what? I wouldn’t stop you guys being together even if I could!” Jarrah, Naruto and Amber had a group hug. Jessica started to feel guilty for once in her life. “I’m sorry Jarrah,” Jess said in a tiny voice, but with a lot of meaning. “That’s alright, Jess. Join our group hug!” So the four of them hugged on the footsteps of the hotel, feeling more loved and united than ever before.
Finally away from the chaos, Jarrah, Naruto and his mum were at Jarrah’s house in Melbourne. Jarrah’s parents didn’t know what to say to their daughter. Should they talk about the attack together? Why were there two complete strangers in their house? They approached her about the latter one. “Ok, you are so not gonna believe me when I tell you this,” Jarrah said in a shaky voice. Her parents stared at her. “But me and Naruto are in love.” Her mum and dad now stared at each other. “Look, I know it sounds crazy but you gotta believe me.” “Ok honey,” her dad said in fake...

Jarrah received her copy of the letter later that afternoon. She read it, but extremely slowly. The letter really opened her eyes. She never knew about Mr Stenson’s dad. She finally understood why he did it, and why throughout the entire trip, he had to “organise things for tomorrow”. He was planning the terrorist attack the whole time! But one thing she didn’t understand was why he took it THAT far. Attacking Tokyo just because his Dad got killed by the Japanese in the Vietnam War? Didn’t really make much sense…although people have different ways of getting their revenge, and that was his way of getting it.
The group fell asleep in the reception of the hotel and Jarrah was the first to wake up. Her watch read 11:20am. Holy shit! Jarrah realised the flight back home was at 4pm, less than 5 hours away! She woke everybody up immediately. “What the hell are you doing Jarrah,” Jessica grumbled. “Waking you up! We need to catch the flight back home, remember?” “Oh yeah…” Jess replied and started to go to her hotel room. “Jarrah,” called Naruto. “Can I chat to you for a sec?” “Yeah sure! What’s up?” Naruto pulled Jarrah aside, away from Amber and Jessica. “I want to come...

They had been down there for three hours now. The terrorists struck at 9am that morning and Naruto’s phone read noon. Naruto thought it was safe to bring himself and Jarrah out of the tunnel now. “Oh my god,” Jarrah said blankly. “Did that just happen, Naruto?” “Yes darling. It did.”

The pair started to slowly walk through the park. Jarrah was still shaky from the attack but Naruto was there to comfort her, even though he was a tad shaky himself. Jarrah saw that the hotel was still standing. She wanted to run towards it and tell Amber and Jess that she was going to be ok, but her body wouldn’t let her do that. Ten minutes later they made it back to Jarrah’s hotel. They may have been unstable and mentally beaten up, but they felt treasured and happy because of their love for each other.
“Whoa! That was the best gig I have ever been to!” Jarrah said with enthusiasm. “Yeah! Same here!” Naruto agreed. There was a moment of comfortable silence between the two in “their” park. “I really meant what I said at lunch Naruto. I think I love you.” There was another pause. “Well, I think I love you too.” Naruto and Jarrah leaned into each other, holding hands…they were having their first kiss! It was wildly passionate. The tension had built up over the few days they had known each other for. The kiss was just the right length of time and so, so sweet. “Wow Naruto!” Jarrah coughed out, almost breathless. They were still holding hands. “Wow Jarrah!” he said back. “Can I have seconds?” Jarrah joked. Naruto let out a laugh, but replied seriously to her question. “Anything for you, Jarrah.”
Jarrah and Naruto sat at one of the small food court tables. They chatted for ages and ages about anything and everything. Jarrah decided it was time. She touched Naruto’s hand and said: “I really like you Naruto.” Naruto didn’t know what to say, but his feelings decided on the words. “I really like you too,” he replied. Naruto stroked Jarrah’s cheek and said: “I need to ask you something.” “Go ahead,” Jarrah said with interest. “Do you like Tokio Hotel?” he said. “You mean the band? I hope you are not talking about my hotel!” Naruto laughed. “Yes I am talking...

The three friends walked slowly through the shopping mall, pointing out anything that caught their attention. Jarrah spotted a pharmacy up ahead. “Hey! Why don’t we go into the pharmacy?” Jarrah exclaimed. “Why would we want to do THAT?!” Jessica said in her sarcastic tone. “Well, they usually have loads of make-up stalls in there and that means lots of different make-up combinations,” Jarrah replied in a factual way. “Plus, there is LOADS of perfume in a pharmacy too,” Amber said enthusiastically. They all went into the store and sprayed perfume everywhere, making some of...

They all left the hotel at around 3pm and set off down the bustling streets of Tokyo. They saw food stalls overflowing with fresh produce, clothing shops with delicate kimonos and other fine garments hanging in the windows, geishas with their usual white makeup on and pretty kimonos and they also saw high-end shops like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. They finally found the shopping centre nestled away in a minor street. “Wow! This is amazing!” exclaimed Jarrah. It was one of those shopping centres where everything looked luxe and expensive. “Ooooh! A lolly store!!!” Jarrah said as she spotted...

On the bus ride home, Jarrah couldn’t stop thinking about Nagato-his cinnamon skin, his cocoa eyes, his sweet face. Jarrah was clearly infatuated and couldn’t get him out of her head. As soon as she got back to her hotel room, she got on MSN and to her surprise; Nagato was online at exactly the same time as her. They chatted for hours on end about anything and everything they could think of. At some ungodly hour, they finally ran out of things to discuss and Jarrah went to bed.

The next day was Thursday. The day Amber, Jessica and Jarrah agreed to go shopping together. They all were all a bit sleepy so they decided to chill out in the morning and go shopping later, in the afternoon.
Now this mountain wasn’t exactly Mt Fuji in the way of height, but it was still a challenge for most people. Jarrah had an advantage over the others because of her level of fitness, but it was still a struggle for her. The higher the altitude got, the less oxygen in the air and everyone struggled more and more as they got higher, but they all made it to the top, which was a relief.

This mountain was like one out of a movie. Perfectly pointed tip with lush snowfall all over it. Sweet, dainty clouds surrounded the top of the mountain and bigger, fluffier clouds were scattered around the middle. This was one beautiful mountain. Even though they were all breathless and tired, the students couldn’t care less because the view was amazing and the silence was extremely calming. When they had to go, they left the mountain feeling rejuvenated and surprisingly calm.
As soon as she got back to the hotel, she was bombarded with questions from her ever nosy friends. “Why are YOU so happy?” Jessica said in her sarcastic tone. “She probably brought some really good chocolate,” Amber said. “No I didn’t. I just went to the park. That’s all.” “Whatever you say, Jarrah,” Jessica said in a doubtful voice. “Anyway, how was your shopping trip?” “It was AMAZING Jarrah! You should you have been there! The shopping centre was full of these wonderful sculptures made from recycled cardboard. Apparently, it’s a part of their Government’s plan...

The drive back was even slower than the one before. Everyone was more tired than before and Mr Stenson wasn’t there to make jokes and be sarcastic in his usual way. When they got back to the hotel, they realised that they had the rest of the afternoon to themselves. Amber and Jessica went shopping together, some went to the local park and most stayed back at the hotel. Jarrah decided to go to the park.

It was peaceful at the park (even though it was in the middle of Tokyo) and had beautiful cherry blossom trees cascading over the pathways. The smell of the trees’ dainty blossoms were just...

Jarrah wondered about Nagato as she lay in her very luxurious hotel bed that night. The only sounds that where around at that time of night were Amber’s farting, Katie’s snoring and the traffic. They where in the heart of Tokyo and because they had to book the hotel last minute, (Mr Stenson always forgets things like that) they were very lucky to even get a luxury hotel with enough room for them all, but they got a very noisy location. At least we are close to everything, Jarrah thought.

The next day, the class got up with heaps of excitement and enthusiasm, but everyone was tired too. Very...
