Atheism Question

What would you do/how would things change for you if it turned out that God really does exist?

Okay, so say suddenly there was proof of Gods existence.....like he appeared in the sky to everyone one day or something like that. But lets just say that you found out tomorrow that there is complete certainty that he exists.

Basically, would you start going to church? Are you only an atheist because you don't believe, or do you also dislike religion/God?

For me, no, I wouldn't worship God. I dislike most religions, as they treat women poorly, and God doesn't seem very nice.....like assuming the bible is *true* in this situation, and it really is gods word, I mean, he kills people, and there are all kinds of incest that it seems God is okay with, and things like that. So basically, for me, nothing would change, I wouldn't bow down to God because I dislike him from what I know about him and I dislike *his* religion.

but that's just me, what about you guys?

Of course I would then had to accept the existence of God, but everything else after that is hard to imagine.
It really depends on what kind of *person* (if you can say that about deity) that god is. If he claims we have to worship him and sacrafice children or something, than I think I'd rather face his wrath. If he is, like religions try to convince us, merciful and all-loving and came to help us, than I would follow his ethic (but still with critical approach - where was he before, what is his "plan", e.t.c.). This is just approximate, nobody really knows what they would do if God turned out to be real, not even believers.

There is a movel Pyramids (part of Terry Pratchett Discworld series) about a kingdom Djelebeybi (closely resembling Ancient Egypt), where (due to a magical complication) gods become real. Really fun to read, if you are into comical fantasy.

I would naturally have to recognize his existance, but whether I would worship him or not really depends on the occasion. If he was the God who is portrayed in the Bible, then no, I wouldn't find it ethical to follow him or his commands. In all cases, I would be sceptical and want to learn more about him (his true nature, why he suddenly chose to reveal himself to the world, what he wants from us etc) before I know if I want to worship him. There are many issues with blindly obeying someone, no matter who it is. For example, if he had specific groundrules when it comes to his followers' lifestyle, I would be concerned of losing my own identity. If he, like the biblical God, preached that certain social groups or individuals are inferior to others, I wouldn't worship him because it goes against my own personal moral values, etc.

Even if there was God, I wouldn't go to Church eiether and I wouldn't pretend like I believe in him/her or whatever. I really don't like the idea that there is some dude wathcing over us and don't giving damn fuck about what is happening on earth. I had never believe in God or any other deitie. And just like it says in this quote “I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time."

I still wouldn't worship him. I don't see a reason to since the God the bible refers to is sexist, homophobic, racist, and a murderer, and I don't see that as something I could ever worship. If I did worship him I would have to abandon a good deal of my morals and I'm not willing to do that either.

I'd rather make a deal with the devil to dethrone God. "The enemy of my enemy..." you know how it goes and two rebels are stronger than one. :)

But seriously, I have a "bow down to none" principle, so I can't imagine myself worshipping any godlike creature. Why would I want to kneel before a narrow minded douche bag who is even more egoistic and egocentric than I am? Not to mention such issues as the Bible's abominable stance towards women, LGBT people and all other independent individuals.

So, unless it was the only and absolutely necessary for self preservation course of action, I wouldn't start going to church or praying.

I'd be pissed at him and all of the troubles he's inadvertently caused throughout these few thousands of years.
And then I'd go back to learning German and eating and breathing and what not. He's caused more trouble than he's fixed, and I want no part of it.

I'd probably say a quote from The Penguins of Madagascar. Like 'Oh a whole bunch of heck.' - Kowalski. I doubt this answer will get many votes. XD But I don't care.

i would acknowlage that he exists ,but i would not start worshiping him just because a person existes doesnt mean i should change my whole fucking life. i believe in free will and if god really did exist then he shouldnt make you praise him for using your right to decide about how you live your life.
