Atheism Question

Soul?

Do you belive we have a soul or not? How exactly is soul even defined? I often get that soul has been measured or something, but never how and where, do you have any information on this? How would you explain spiritualsm without soul? Fell free to post anything (at least kinda) related to the topic.

I personally think we do not have a soul and our fellings and thoughts are produced in brain. But that might be just me, since a am a ginger lol.

I know this question is a bit random. I don't quite know what I was trying to ask by myself.

Again, should be a forum topic...

The soul is a tricky concept. Personally, I think we have an "essence" about us. There is a core to who we are. Whether that is a literal core, as in a tangible soul, or if it is just a feeling we get because we feel the need to explain our feeling that we are special, unique individuals, I don't know.

I too feel that the more likely explanation is that our brains are just interpreting our outer worlds and our inner worlds and trying to consolidate them and explain them.
But where my ideas butt-heads is when I think about ghosts etc. Logically, I am aware that the experience of a ghost is just my brain processing my emotions and creating the image or sense of a ghost in order to express those emotions. Logically, I know that standing in a room where someone died and feeling a presence is my own brain doing the same kind of emotional processing. BUT there is something about those experiences that has always made me doubt my thoughts about what a soul is. The feeling that those souls in someway are still existing in some other form is overwhelming. So while all I have ever learnt has taught me that my brain is just organiating stimultion, the actual experience of those things really tests that knowledge. I still think seeing a ghost or feeling a spirit is a brain going into emotional over-drive, but there is a part of me that believes that the essence of a person may continue existing, whether it is incorporated into another being or soul (ie reincarnation) or imprints itself upon an object or within a certain space.
And for the record, in case someone asks, just because I believe in the possiblity of a soul in some form does not mean that I think that that soul could go to a heaven or a hell. Heaven and hell are political constructions created for political purposes. Hell, so is the soul for that matter.

Depends what you mean by "soul".

If you mean like angels carry you up to heaven, your soul can be pocessed kind of sutff, then no.
But no matter weather christian, jewish, agnostic, athiest etc, you can always know when somethings alive. When something's dead (and we've all seen a dead something before, maybe a badger on the side of the road :( or on tv or whatever) You can see it is lacking a energy it has when it's alive. It's not the same anymore. But it's still there's. I believe that theres a energy we all pocess (from a athiest) which isn't there when your dead. Can you tell the difference between a dead thing and a living thing?

Now, i'm not saying that we all have these magical blue heavenly stars or any of that, i just well, wonder sometimes....
