For Trump. (Although the reason for my vote is more like 5 percent for Trump and 95 percent against Clinton.)

Maybe consider looking into the other candidates, you might find someone you want to vote for.

None are viable, and the only goal at this point is to stop Hillary. I'm a hardcore conservative, so getting behind Libertarian Gary Johnson or Green Jill Stein is out, and independent Evan McMullin isn't a great conservative either (he's open to a "path to legal residence and in some cases citizenship" for illegal aliens, according to his website). If I felt I had to vote "for" someone, I would write in my conservative uncle (or Ted Cruz), but doing so would do nothing to stop another Democrat from occupying the White House.

^ I'm curious how this fits in with some of the comments made around here about how Trump and democrat Bernie Sanders are considered by some voters to be very similar in terms of their policies.

It will not be Trump, that's for damn sure.

If not Trump, surely Hillary Clinton? The US system means there's an 100% chance of one or the other becoming president. Voting for another candidate pretty much takes away a vote for the major candidate you're most aligned with, and advantages the major candidate you're least aligned with.

I know, but I'm not sure I can stand behind Clinton. I'd prefer her over Trump, but I'm leaning towards third party at the moment.

I just worry that the large number of "Dislike Trump, pretty ambivalent towards Clinton" people will potentially mean a Trump presidency (god save us) if half of them flock to third parties. If that occurs, I also think a good portion will be like "shit, that wasn't meant to happen" and experience some degree of voter regret.

It's not "taking a vote away" if you wouldn't vote for either of the two leading candidates in the first place.

If people weren't bullied into voting against someone, or discouraged by people saying that third parties have no chance, third parties might actually have a chance.

But unfortunately third parties, this time around, don't have a chance. Maybe that'll change in the future. Either by many, many more people flocking from the major parties to third parties, or (more feasibly) changing to a fairer preferential voting system that means a third party vote counts, even if they aren't elected.

I understand that by voting third party there's a hope of them becoming more important in the future. But the stakes are just so high in this election. Many regard both major candidates as flawed. They are, yes, but very much not equally so. That is a distinction with earth-shattering consequences if ignored.

This was from a link I read a few days ago:
"Polls show there are millions of voters, especially young ones, who agree in big numbers that Trump is a racist and a sexist, unqualified for America’s highest office – but who are refusing to back Clinton. One survey of 18- to 34-year-olds recorded dire numbers for Trump, but still found only 31% supporting Clinton, with 29% preferring libertarian Gary Johnson and 15% the Green candidate Jill Stein. If those numbers are replicated on election day, Trump will win."

I cry.

95% sure.

Though it's sad because apparently I'm with the minority again; I'm going for Jill.

I wasn't 100% sure until the first debate. But yup, Hillary has won me over. Gotta love link.

Well, about 96% sure, but it's my question and I'll be a pick-weasel if I want to.
