Recap

“Where am I going to take care of you then, Tye?” I ask, already worried for my new little brother. That’s how I thought of him anyway, a little brother! I’ve always wanted one.

“Not sure… Let’s pretend we’re orphans and walk around see if anyone has the heart to take us in.” He snickers. He really is my brother! I laugh then knuckle bump with him.

“Hey, I get a new name now, right? I’ve always liked the name Dean, can I be Dean?” I asked excitedly. I need to start acting like a guy, puh…

“Ha ha! That sounds cool!” He says then claps for me. I pick him up and set him on my shoulders, just like a big brother would… the scene almost made me cry.

(Do you guys like the recaps? If not tell me.)

__________________________________________________

Me and Tye wound up on Blackstone street, it’s said to be the busiest street in my town. As expected, people were crowding the streets, selling jewelry and fruits and many other things. I let Tye off my shoulders and he walked by me. He pulled on my sleeve after about 10 minutes of walking.

“Walk like a guy, and look handsome, maybe we can get some girls to take us in.” He whispered in my ear, then he let go and continued to walk ahead of me.

I thought about that for awhile trying to think of what I thought a hot guy looked like. Lean, slouchy, white shirt, jacket, black jeans, big glasses, converse. I don’t have any of that except lean. AGH! Instead of brooding over it any more, I gained some confidence and tried walking like a guy. I tried to look upset too, or else people would think I’m happy being homeless… no way am I being happy like this. Suddenly I remember about Tye’s cat ears and his tail, what am I thinking?! I run up to him and turn him around, he was smiling still covered in dirt.

“Have you lost your mind? What if these people see your ears and tail?” I hiss violently at him, my two big hands on his tiny shoulders. My eyes were big and my mouth was gaping, as I thought of what these people around me must be thinking. Instead of freaking out like me, Tye giggles.

“They can’t see my ears or my tail, I look like a human to them. But, you must be wondering why you see me with cat ears and a tail.” He snickers and then puts his hands on his hips and sways from side to side.

“Tell me you little squirt!” I make a face at him and then he happily sighs.

“What is your zodiac animal?” Tye asks, totally off topic. Is he trying to make me mad? I swear… if he’s just pushing my buttons I won’t hesitate to punch him.

“The cat. Oh…okay.” I say, getting it. How weird, I wonder if everyone’s twin is like their zodiac animal.

“Excuse me.” I hear a woman’s voice say. I turn around to see a woman, she’s tall and has long brown curly hair. She’s wearing thick rimmed rectangle glasses and a smile. Her small baby face rosy red. She seemed to be in her early twenties.

“Yes?” I ask, hoping she was wanting to take us in.

“Are you two orphans?” My heart skipped a beat, while my brain rejoiced with the rest of my organs inside my body.

“Yeah…” Tye says sadly, his voice seemed to drip with misery. I wanted to hug him so badly, but I contained myself.

“You don’t have a home, do you? Would you like to come live with me?” She said sweetly, the bright turquoise eyes brimming with tears on the other side of her glasses.

“That would be wonderful, miss. Thank you so much. I’ve been trying to look after my little brother all this time-- and…” I fake hiccupped and rubbed my eyes.

“Aw… It’s okay.” She hugged me, and surprisingly her head almost fit under my chin. It felt weird being so tall… Instead I tried to put my chin on her shoulder, but that didn’t work either. Then I tried to just hold my head up, but then my neck started to cramp. So then, I just dropped my head and my forehead rested on her shoulder. How can boys do it? Hugging is so hard…

Tye hugged both of us around the waist, he made sniffling sounds as he buried his face into my ribs.

“Well, let’s go then. Hop into the car.” She sniffled, then went into her pocket only to pull out a silk handkerchief that she delicately put to the corners of her eyes.

Both Tye and I gasp when we see a Koenigsegg CCX pull up next to the woman who hugged us. Who is she the president?! I scream at the top of my lungs inside my head. I look at Tye and from my perspective, It looks like he’s going through the same thing I am. Complete and utter mystification. Also four words, that kept running in my head like a cat chasing a mouse. ‘We are so lucky.’

***

I look out of the back seat window as the woman’s chauffer drives. It seems like we’ve been on the same straight line road for an entire hour. Then the road becomes engulfed in trees, we drive in the trees for about ten minutes, then the road widens and the opening reveals a castle. I swear to you it was a castle. It was big, gray, and it was like five stories high. It reminded me of an old high school. The windows were large and very decorative on the outside. There was a large cement area in front of it, about the size of a parking lot. It has a large cement wall around it. Then there was grass for miles, then a forest beyond that small cement fence. The castle seemed to have three parts. One was the size of a very large house, to the left connected to that house part was what seemed like a wing. It was in the shape of an L. To the right of the house figure was a smaller part, I think it was the garage. Anyways, this place is amazing, like out of a fairytale. That’s what my life is beginning to feel like. A fairytale…

The car pulls up next to the huge front door, flanked by two white ribbed columns. Edged with dark wood. The door itself is a master piece. I could stare at it all day and find new ways to trace my finger along the wood for hours. It’s handle is curved like an snake, bronze and antiqued.

I pull on the handle of the car then push the door with my leg. I slip out and gently shut the door behind me. I look up at the large balcony above the front door, putting my hands in the pockets of my baggy camo pants that were now almost shorts on me. My tight white shirt was even tighter than tight now, so tight it hurt. I stretch, reaching for the sky, then look behind me. Tye was walking around the back and the woman was walking around front. I walk over to the woman and ask - with ’tears’ in my eyes.

“What’s your name, ma’am? I’m Dean and my little brother’s name is Tye.” I say, looking down at her eyes. Gyaaah! It feels so weird being tall!

“Dean and Tye. What lovely names! I’m Kaitlyn Montahue.” She said warmly, gesturing towards the door. Montahue… I feel like I’ve heard that name before. Odd.

“Go ahead and go in, I’ve got to get something from the car.” Miss Montahue says, then hurriedly goes back to the car, her heels clacking against the cement.

I turn around, and take one step inside. I look down and there’s a large rug, beautifully designed, hand sewn, and antique, yet it says ‘Welcome Home’. I think about that for awhile wondering if anyone had thought to make a welcome home mat back then. Probably, I shouldn’t think about things too much. Tye walks in behind me, I hear a subtle gasp as he looks around stunned.

“Hey, aren’t you covered in dirt? Here let me…” I say, picking him up onto my shoulders. I’m surprisingly even stronger now than when I was a girl.

The inside hall where we entered had two stair cases on either sides of the walls that led up. In the middle was a large fountain, the fountain was round and had three levels at the top level a little spurt of water came out and flowed onto the lower levels. I saw a man with clean cut black hair, and rimless glasses. He was dressed in a butler’s tux and carrying some papers. He came down the right staircase mumbling something to himself looking at the papers and fixing his glasses.

He looks up to see me and Tye standing there, completely dumbfounded. He stands there for a second looking at us.

“Oh, hi! I’m Clark, the butler. Who are you?” He says happily, fixing his glasses again and shuffling the papers around.

I just stood there, staring. He was so cute… The way he smiled and fixed his glasses. Adora-- What am I thinking? I’m a guy now! I came out of my stupor and smiled warmly, then began my sob story. I take a breath but before I can begin to say anything, Tye starts to talk.

“We were orphans but Miss Montahue picked us up and invited us here.” He said it happily, as if he were born smiling. Born smiling… I grumbled in my head about happiness.

“Oh, I see. So, what are your names?” He asks, curious, still smiling.

“I’m Dean.” I say softly. I feel so weird. I’m taller than him but.. Gyaah!

“And, I’m Tye!” The little bundle of sun and giggles yelled upon my shoulders.

“Well, nice to meet you, Dean and Tye.” Clark said, just as the front door opened revealing Miss Montahue with a large brown envelope clutched in her hands. I was about to say ‘Welcome back’ before I heard a loud and happy someone yell at the top of his lungs.

“Welcome home, miss!” I turned to see Clark with his arms opened wide. The papers laying in his left hand, balanced on his palm.

Tye and I just turned to look at Miss Montahue’s reaction when she said happily

“Thank you, Clark.” She starts to walk over to the door to my right, but then she stops to look at Clark again.

“Oh, can you show these two around and give them the guest rooms upstairs?” She says questioningly. “I’ve got to go do some paper work then mail this out. I’ll be in my office.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Clark replies then cheerfully says “Follow me, boys.” He starts to turn around and head back up the stairs he went down.

“Uh. Oh. Yeah. ‘Kay.” I say, coming out of my daze, when Tye hits me on the head. I pay no attention to him as I follow Clark up the stairs. I easily scale the stairs taking two at a time, like it was a regular thing to do. I held on to Tye’s little feet, as I glanced at the walls. Large colorful paintings of random stuff hung there, I could’ve stared at it but I adjusted my gaze to the back of Clark’s head.

We turned left when we reached the top of the stairs. A golden afternoon light shone through the giant stained glass windows along the right side of the hallway. The warmth on my arms was a great feeling, I remember sitting on my roof watching the sunsets when I was still Mary and not Dean. We passed lot’s of doors and end tables with expensive looking vases and flowers and other antiques on them. Finally, Clark went into his pocket then pulled out a small key, it was very old looking and bronze. I walked up next to him, gazing at the huge mahogany door with awe.

“This will be your room, Tye.” Clark stated handing the key to Tye above my head. Tye giggled then hopped off my shoulders with ease, landing softly on the wood floors.

“All mine? Really?” Tye asked in excitement almost… almost bouncing off the walls. I laughed softly then ruffled his hair.

“Of course.” Clark smiles, then fixes his glasses with the hand that isn’t holding the mound of papers. Again, my breath hesitates in my chest from Clark’s smile. I force myself to think ‘I am a boy, I am a boy, I am a boy’. I brush my cargo pants then take a deep breath.

“Follow me, Dean.” Clark gleefully inquires. I nod and then follow his footsteps slowly, watching the way his feet moved. I stick my hands in one of the many pockets of my cargo pants. My hands were so long that the pocket could only hold up to my knuckles. So I balled my fists and shoved them in the pockets.

“Yeah…” I say stupidly. I gaze out the window at the sunset, the now small ball of yellow gently turning the low clouds a flattering shade of lilac and citrus orange. I kept looking out the windows as we walked, consumed in the sunset. I wanted to take a picture of it so badly. I stop at one of the huge windows and stare out, captivated.

“Eh? Dean, this is your room.” Clark says, dumbfounded because I wasn’t near him.

I was off in my own little dream land, sitting in front of the window, staring and not really staring.

The colors and arrays were just so magnificent I couldn’t take my eyes off them. The sun seemed to stop right there on the horizon, exploding billions of colors into the clouds. The clouds stayed completely still, yet they seemed to move and bend to blur and mix the sun’s color array.

“Amazing isn’t it?” I felt Clark’s presence beside me, but I continued to look at the sun.

“Yeah…” I say slowly, feeling sleepy now.

“But, everything beautiful doesn’t stay forever. Everything will dull and fray sooner or later. That’s why we cherish everything beautiful. Right?” He says, now he’s also looking at the sun. I didn’t believe what he said. Things can stay beautiful forever, on the inside. He wasn’t really paying attention to me, so I didn’t say anything. Instead I got up and took a deep breath.

“Can you take me to my room now, sorry for holding you up.” I say, looking at the floor, I felt very, very, very tired. I almost fell over but I managed to stumble over to my bedroom door. Clark gave me the key, and said good night. I put the key in the key hole slowly and when I pushed open the door… you wouldn’t believe what I saw.

The floors were a solid white, like tiles but you couldn’t see the cracks. I looked to the left of me to see a huge vanity. It had a little chair and lots of little drawers with silver handles. With a huge mirror on top connected to it that seemed to be resting on the wall. I glance to my left to see to see a huge white office desk in the corner. It fit perfectly snug in there too. It had a geometric feel. There were many drawers, above and below. A white laptop sitting in the middle of the desk, and a gray mini fridge next to the last bottom drawer of the desk.

I walk over to the desk, admire the craftsmanship then I gently set the key Clark gave me next to the laptop. Then I check the fridge… empty. Gah.
Then after complaining to myself how pointless that minifridge was to me at my time of need. I spin around in the desk chair three or four times. Then I realize there’s more to the room.

To the left of the desk were stairs but the stairs were so weird, yet cool at the same time… They were a solid black and felt like marble. They came directly out of the wall to the right and just stayed there. Jutting out of the wall perfectly, nothing supporting them. I slowly walk up them a huge clown grin spreading across my face. At the top there’s a white platform, on the platform there’s a king sized bed. A very simple, thick rectangle headboard that was a smokey gray color. The two large white fluffy pillows were propped up on the headboard. The soft silky feeling comforter was pitch black. Very plain and simple, these people got my style down! Creepy.

I feel wide awake now. I take off my tight white shirt and groan as I look at the pink lines it left on my new muscular flat male body. I laugh quietly to myself, thinking this is just like a dream. It felt weird not having a shirt on… I toss it on the bed and go back down the stairs.

I turn to the right, take two steps, then turn to the right again. I see a large black flat screen hanging on the wall. Below it there’s this geometric black spin table type thing. I walk over to it and spin it several times, seeing CD’s, movies, and little decorations.

I look to my right again to see a black coffee table in the shape of an oval. Not too short, not too tall, the perfect foot rest. Behind the coffee table is a gray loveseat, again geometric, casual, simple, awesome. And behind that is four tall book cases tucked under the above platform and stairs.

A shocked expression becomes plastered on my face once I realize: This is my room.

“Yeah!” I whisper yell. Balling my fists up and raising them to the ceiling which I now see has a white fan. I chuckle to myself then quietly spring up to my bed. I kick off my shoes and socks then scoot under the covers. I stretch my arms up then fold them behind my head. I close my eyes and review the day. I feel tired just thinking about it… geez.

(Okay, well apparently my images aren't working. I had some really cool photos that some places were based off of. I'll show you guys next time. :P Thanks for reading, tell me what you think.) =)

Here is the first chapter of my story. I posted the first half like two months ago but here it is again. By the way this book has two perspectives. I edited the first chapter.

The first day-Athena's perspective

Boy now that I look back at that week it was when my perspective on all things changed. I knew that week was different. The first day felt off. Just by how I woke up.
"Athena! Get up and get ready for school!" my mom shouted at me
My eyes popped open and I got up immediately and got dressed. This was new for me since I always got up later and refused to get out of bed but I felt like I...

Are you as lovely as the days of summer
But you can not be, for your beauty and fairness range far beyond
summer can be rough, shaking the flowers in bloom
And summer is to short for my liking
The sun bears down harshly upon us,
and is often eclipsed by the clouds.
And all beauty erodes away,
by the the mother of nature or...

To whom it may concern

My name is Ashton George Lingheart, and this is my confession. In July of 1998 I murdered my wife, Kim Rachel Summer Lingheart, a year after the birth of our son. No one aided me in the crime and it is a thing I regret more than anything in the world. I hid her body in a well from our previous location in New Jersey. My wife was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken woman whom everyone adored. She never got angry, even at the people who disrespected her. She loved our son just like a mother would, for she always wanted a family of her own. She...
