(Apologies for the ugly card at the top, I was rushed for time when making this one)
So after I dipped my toes into the vast lake of a franchise with SoulCalibur V, I decided to try out other games. II was good, but never got to play much of it, IV was eh, and we never talk about Legends. Pretend that doesn’t exist. And then, announcement of SoulCalibur VI comes out, and everybody gets hyped. We see Mitsurugi and Ivy in beautiful 4k resolution, and motherfucking Geralt from Witcher, but that ain’t what interested me. When I saw character creator Kirby, and the chance for making the dumbest fucking things ever… I knew I needed this in my life.
Being the very first game I ever bought at full retail price in my entire life, I had gotten far deeper into the fighting game craze at this point and was more than ready to try out a game online. Long story short, I fucking sucked. I got my ass kicked by a majority of people I go up against online. But it’s fine, cause SoulCalibur VI probably has the most meat out of any of the games before, and not just in online mode. The other modes allow you to go through a major story with a ton of side quests and challenges, which I am assuming is the main mode. There is a sort of story mode with Kilik, a far superior character than the previous games story mode, and one that wasn’t super great, but a step up from V, and then there is the arcade mode, but with a lack of any endings, which let me down a little. I really do enjoy the characters of the franchise and want to see their endings. But the true meat of this game is the online. Going up against people all across the world in lobbies and trying to face them. And no, I am not saying this just because of the character creator…. Okay, I am partially saying it’s the best because of the character creator. But, not because of memes… Alright, the memes are hilarious. Seeing an obese fat fuck as a Kirby waddle towards you like an ungodly mistake makes me laugh and die inside at the same time. But seriously, the character creator really shows the creativity of the SoulCal community. You see them use the creator to create stuff that most people would think were modded into the game in some way or another, but were just used making the basic tools that were available to everyone. Anyone could make something like a Magikarp or a giant robot, if they have the patience for it. I love the character creator in this game, and I will happily get my ass handed to me by a Doug Dimmadome or a giant pistachio any day. Oh, and the combat is pretty fun too, I guess. You got the chance to clash swords and depending on where you land, you can strike first and strike hard, adn blocking at the right time can leave an enemy stunned, but give them just enough time to get back up and continue the fight. The usual stuff, you know.
SoulCalibur VI is easily my favorite in the franchise so far. It gave me a ton of laughs, a ton of enjoyment, and was just a fun few hours. I still come back to it a few times to play online and see what sort of people are waiting to kick my ass again. And I do plan on getting the DLC some time which includes classic Tara and my waifu for laifu 2B from NieR: Automata as a guest character… But we’ll discuss that game later. *wink, wink*
