'The Originals' boss on what comes after those midseason finale shockers

For Davina, 2015 was a bit of a rough year. Not only did she lose her boyfriend, Kol Mikaelson, but the same thing happened to her best friend Josh, who lost Aiden. And then there’s the whole thing where she became regent of all New Orleans witches only to have that title stripped away. So yeah, she doesn’t live in an attic anymore, but at this point, is life outside much better?

The good news is there’s one person who could make 2016 a little more bearable, and it seems now that Davina is no longer regent, she can refocus on bringing him back. “We will see Kol back on

this season,” executive producer Michael Narducci tells EW. “Davina will find help from an unlikely place and make contact with the long lost love of her life, Kol Mikaelson.” 

, reconnecting with Kol is not going to be simple. “In order to reach out to him, she’ll have to embark on a dangerous journey into New Orleans’ supernatural underworld,” Narducci says, adding, “This will be the first chapter in a storyline that will have long-lasting effects on the entire Mikaelson clan.”

Now the question is: Which Kol will we get — the vampire played by Nathaniel Buzolic or the witch played by Daniel Sharman? And either way, how will Kol’s return affect the Mikaelson prophecy?
