Hymen tearing, 3D rendered breasts, and ball gags. Those were what helped pushed the envelope this episode, but Kotomi busting out the “pedophilia” word in front of Suzu had to be right up there from an anime perspective. I just love how Suzu had to interject and say Tsuda has a lolita complex instead, to save face for both herself and anime as a whole. When it comes to anime, I’ll always approach that topic without too many serious implications; however, that’s not the case with a lot of people so it was probably wise of them to sidestep that land mine. While it didn’t save them...

You just know Tsuda’s got it bad with the Ousai student council when his nightmares involve Shino and Aria being unusually normal and not spouting out a dirty joke every minute or so. It wasn’t too long ago that he was trying really hard to get used to their habits, but now it’s gotten to the point that it feels wrong without them. I guess this goes to show how one can get accustomed to anyone, whether they’re absolutely crazy or sex-starved virgins with the most perverted minds ever. I’ll be the first to admit that having a girl like Shino or Aria around would make every day a lot...

A beach episode involving only the student council and an unplanned overnight stop at an inn because Yokoshima-sensei decided to get wasted on beers. It probably goes without saying that it was a “brilliant” script that translated well on screen. This time, they remembered to throw in some fan-service too. Booyah! One would probably expect the sight of Shino and Aria in bikinis to be the highlight here, but I was inexplicably mesmerized by Shino showing us her hip action while riding her inflatable dolphin. Is this girl really a virgin!? Innocent girls would probably just straddle it and...

On a school trip to Kyoto, school newspaper club president Hata Ranko (Arai Satomi) reveals how Shino and Aria’s jokes don’t seem to have as much punch without Takatoshi around to insert his comedic jab at the end. Surprisingly, the two of them still know when to stop on their own though. I would’ve figured Aria mistakenly giving Suzu the key to her chastity belt would’ve prompted a much better reaction from Shino when she had a spare delivered directly by helicopter. Evidently, the idea of a chastity belt isn’t anything new to the president, yet she still has a thing against cameras...

I couldn’t help but get some Kumashiro Maya vibes when I saw Shino whip out the occult stuff, so I was a bit disappointed when the script didn’t take that gag and run with it. Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting Naruko’s cackling to be the source of the creepy voices coming from the third floor hallway, but after seeing her drooling over some yaoi magazine she confiscated, I thought she could have easily passed as a possessed spirit of sorts. It didn’t come as any surprise that Shino and Aria would dig into the goods themselves and analyze the end result of two sweaty guys with stained...

This series still never reaches laugh-till-you-cry levels with its quick delivery of gags, but I continue to enjoy its witty way of going about the perverse nature of it all. The use of Japanese wordplay type of jokes and subtler forms of humor can be lost at times, but there are always moments that are so implicative that I’m left speechless. It’s partly the disbelief over seeing or hearing what I just did that keeps me amused, which viewing Suzu drinking milk and listening to Takatoshi from a suggestive angle was a prime example of. While the obligatory “damn yo” reaction springs...

Well I’m impressed. GoHands may be going with a similar style as Princess Lover in this adaptation of a 4-koma gag manga, but it’s still a noticeable step up from their work there. For a series where most of the humor comes from the dialogue itself, the screenplay is done really well too, without relying on any stylistic touches that SHAFT is known to employ to help scene transitions. As the source material is only comprised of short four-cell skits, a lot of padding needed to be done. Many of the scenes were simply concluded with a one-liner stamp to add to the humor of what was shown;...

The humor in this series hasn’t been nearly as hilarious as Mitsudomoe, but I still find it amusing on an unassuming level thanks to Shino and Aria’s perverted minds. Part of the appeal is that I could picture a lot of these jokes happening in real life, though one would hope that they’d be followed by an air of sarcasm to break the ice shortly afterward. Here, Takatoshi doesn’t have the luxury of giving the prez and secretary the benefit of the doubt unfortunately, since their minds really are that ridden with dirty thoughts. Normally you would expect a “just kidding” line to follow...
