“I think it’s a very fraught relationship. I mean we all watched the screening right now as the scene with them on the phone ended I actually said out loud ‘They love each other but they can’t be together.’

And I believe that. I feel like couple clearly have like a ‘love like no other’ which I say in the writer’s room with air quotes because it feels really silly to say it, but they clearly have this relationship that is very, um, that’s permanent, that’s not going to go anywhere. And yet the obstacles that keep them apart are huge and fairly insurmountable.” — - Shonda Rhimes, The Paley Center September 11, 2012over a year ago
What has been your favorite “Scandal” scene so far?
You know what was really fun to do? [Laughs.] This sounds a little more superficial than it’s intended, but the love scene in the Oval Office, when we ended up making love on the desk … I just thought that was such a great scene.

The playfulness of it, and what it said about the nature of Liv and Fitz’s chemistry, and the kind of incredibly boldness of Shonda Rhimes to create that scene in the first place, to have sex on the desk in the Oval Office. It was just so outrageous — that was really fun, and I loved doing it. - Tony Goldwynover a year ago
