He has a very interesting role in his movie that I've only recently started to appreciate; he does a little bit of narration, gets involved in some visual cartoon antics, acts as both a sidekick and a conscience to the protagonist, and goes on a good emotional journey throughout the story. I think that Pinocchio is the movie where Walt Disney and his company learned the differences between storytelling in a feature-length movie and a short cartoon, and where they started to think more about what you can do with character depth and development in a story that's being told for over an hour. I think that Jiminy Cricket is a really lovable and fun character, without being gimmicky, and he can be taken seriously.

I suppose he is a very iconic character too, seeing as he performs the company's signature song!

Also I can relate to his awkward behaviour management skills but that's another story for another day.

The kind, forgiving way she treats others, even those who don't treat her the same in return, is so inspiring!
