Renesmee_XD Yes but I if you read Midnight sun ( the 12 chapters anyway) it will clearly explain why Edward is like that for exmaple the uncontrolled temper is called homorones he is 17 still in adolscence so yeah he should feel stuff at wrong times I feel like taht as well. Just to say remember he is a fictional !

katiecain I never said I agreed with it. But most 17 year old boys are not controlling. Being 17 myself, I hang out with them most days.

nuxi I remember reading a story on BBC about a 9-year-old girl trying to get a divorce. Yeah, arranged marriages may work out sometimes but their founding principles are inherently flawed. And I really don't see how a description of a television show in India provides evidence for or against Ed being a pedophile. They have nothing to do with one another. "I mean take someone you know is really smart that doesnt mean they are have lived any longer than you have they just learnt more in the years they have lived. I bet you they still act their age." This is another unrelated argument. Ed [i]has[/i] lived longer than Bella and it shows. He treats her like a child. EX: he described her "like a kitten that thinks it's a tiger." It's completely condescending and not how you talk about someone you consider your equal. Edward considers himself wiser and more experienced than Bella, essentially an authority, and Bella seems to agree with him. This is what makes these kind of relationships wrong, when one is an authority over the other. Ed has all the power in the relationship.

katiecain Yes, but I'm guessing that's been less than 10 years. Edward's grown with the times, chnaging norms, values, way to behave etc. He would have changed the way he dressed, spoke, acted to suit the times. And I agree with Plenilunio. 'It is absolutely impossible to have lived for over a century and still be stuck at 17 mentally.' Life experience (which Edward will have gotten as a vampire) makes up a huge part of your knowledge and therefore 'brain age' shall we say.

Renesmee_XD Nuxi I agree with your last argument bu there is a connection where everyone says Edward is too Old for Bella but when you look at it literally its not that bad at least Edward is not thinking like 55 year old he is still thinking like 17 year old. I have been living in the U.K for 10 year LOL i suppose its a bit right with mental age but think of what an average old person thinks of do you think Edward thinks like that ?

katiecain That's an interesting point but it's hard because an older person changes a lot physically too, which Edward doesn't. He could quite easily think like an older person if you think what he has seen. The World Wars, The Great Depression, etc... That's gonna change a person. But as he also has the body of a 17 year old, he does have hormones so will also think sexually which an older person wouldn't tend to do because their sex drive often dcreases. Like I said, it's hard to answer and it depends whether you believe what Stephenie says about them not ageing mentally. I just find it very hard to believe that someone can live for a century and not age mentally. :)

Actually (and this is using earth logic, not Meyer logic, so it may be out of context), if he had actually stopped aging, and was *actually* undead, he would have hormones, but they would do anything. And Meyer herself says that all the body fluids are replaced with the venom stuff. And then Bella gets pregnant and logic is thrown out the window. And unless Edward has some kind of social or mental disorder, he WILL mature socially and mentally. Just because his body is frozen in the state of a 17 year old, doesn't mean his mind is. Also, on the "Edward is abusive" topic, he may justify what he does. He may justify what he does so well that you may begin to believe it. That in no way makes it right. Oh, and, a young man living in the early 1900s is not going to watch a woman sleep unless they are married, and even then it's considered creepy. Of course, after marriage, nobody really cares what you do as long as you stay respectable on the outside. And although males were the dominant ones in the relationship, at the time Edward was living (in an industrialized city and state, might I add), things were changing. He would have lived through the twenties and seen feminine liberation (Haha, I make it sound so technical) and all of that. //done.

Remember that quote? -Forcing painkillers on Bella at the end of Twilight. -Drags her to his car at the beginning of Twilight, then threatens that he will just drag her back again if she tries to go back. -Even if playfully, he shows her several times how much stronger he is than her. -Steals her possessions of "anything that may remind her of him" at the beginning of New Moon. -Bribes Alice into holding Bella hostage. -Admits that he would have forced an abortion upon Bella had it not been for Rosalie. -Forces her to go to prom. -Removes the motor from her car because he is jealous of Jacob. -AND MORE!! The age difference is not one of the main issues I have with the series. See November99's examples... The only age gap problem which I do have a problem with is between Jacob and Renesmee. And that's because Renesmee is still an infant and Jacob is a (erm) 17 year old teen. That's just... repulsive.

Renesmee_XD I get your point in most of them but i have an argument against some of them like the painkillers : he, i think, was only doing it so she could be out of pain. I don't think he would like to watch her suffer And to be quite honestin Eclipse Bella does change she changes and sticks up to what she wants and she eventually gets it. If he really was what was stated above he wouldn't forgiven Bella for kissing Jacob and he wouldn't of let her go that easily. The stealing possessions was so she could forget about him and live peacefully without painful remainders of him.

Mongoose09 ^ Yeah, but those situations arent very good for the hormonal teenage girls that are reading. Books and movies should have several good messages not 1000's of bad ones like Twilight does and XDRoseLuvsHP mentioned above.

XDRoseLuvsHP Renesmee_XD: I disagree with the painkillers. She clearly did not want them. Who is he to force them on her? If she doesn't want them, it's HER CHOICE. That was wrong of him. He does guilt her about kissing Jacob, however. He does it passive-aggressively, but he still does it. Removing her engine was wrong. He even admits himself that it was only because he was jealous. That is going way too far. He got Alice to kidnap her, too. How is that NOT abusive? He also knew that she would end up choosing him anyway, so of course he was fine with it. Breaking Jacob's heart doesn't matter to him; he had figured out by then that Bella was going to choose him either way. What do Jacob's feelings matter to him? Either way, stealing is stealing. He already hurt her enough by dumping her. He should have let her deal with the loss herself. He shouldn't be controlling that. I still consider it abuse.

renrae Are there people who object to Edward's age? Because all the ones I've met are hypocrits. I have no problem with the ages in the Bella/Edward relationship. I ship Bangel. There's a much bigger gap.

XDRoseLuvsHP Yeah, I don't really object to the Edward/Bella age difference. I do object to the Jacob/Renesmee age difference, but not the Edward/Bella one, though that doesn't mean that I don't object to their relationship.

Edward's and Bella's relationship may appear to be numerous things to people, but I have to say that one of the main views I disagree with is that Edward is "too old" for Bella. Yes, he is approximately 109 years old literally, while Bella is only 18 years old. But this isn't pedophilia. This isn't, to me, a significant detail. Although being a 109-year-old Immortal vampire, he is a 17-year-old boy. Although having an great intelligence, he, like you said, sometimes acts like a 17-year-old boy. And honestly, if this age thing was such a problem to some Antis in Twilight, why wasn't it a problem for other vampire-romance stories they liked? In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Count Dracula has existed since the year 1462. The rest of the plot, including where he met the rather young Mina, takes place in the year 1897. This proves that Dracula is at least 400 years old, and in love with Mina Murray-Harker who is absolutely much younger then he is. Yet there have never been any criticism towards that detail of "Dracula". Then we have Angel and Buffy from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". A friend mentioned that Angel, the vampire, is over 200 years old, while Buffy is a 17-year-old girl. Why doesn't anyone see THAT is scandulous? I think that Edward's age isn't that highly important. Just my opinions :)
