Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass come from the same social circles and appear to have known each other from a very young age. Blair's current boyfriend, Nate Archibald is also Chuck's best friend, throwing the two even closer in the same clique.

In the first two episodes Blair doesn't appear to have any of the hostile feelings towards Chuck which many others do, and infact the pair are shown to be having a good time in each others company (see:limo). In their brief scenes together they appear to share a chemistry like no other (atleast we think so) and this can only spell good things for their future.

Chuck Bass is the official "bad boy" of the group. While many find his manipulative and somewhat sleazy tendencies to be offputting, he has a secure place at the top of the social scene due to his wealthy parents. His father is the owner of many hotels and Chuck can often be found in one of the suites pursing his extra curricular activities.

His best friend is Nate Archibald, and although they are complete opposites they seem to be very close.

Cynical and world-weary, Chuck has no qualms about living life on the edge and possesses near-sociopathic tendencies of abusing and manipulating others who get in his way.

Blair Waldorf is the outwardly confident, sometimes "bitchy", queen bee of the social scene, played by Leighton Meester. Although Blair appears to have everything a girl could want, her life is far from perfect. The only child of a recently-divorced fashion designer mother and a gay father, Blair attempts to keep her life together by ensuring she remains at the top of the social scene, no matter what it takes.

Her former best friend's return into her life only causes her life to complicate further when she discovers that Serena slept with her longtime boyfriend Nate Archibald before she left for boarding school.

Blair has a fiery nature and does what it takes to get what she wants, but inside is the heart of a vulnerable teenage girl just trying to survive in her deeply competitive environment.
