Symbolic Names!
Often, writers give thier characters a name that has a certain meaning. For instance, one of my characters is named Roni. Which is short for Veronica. She's a very tomboyish girl. She is a witch who is suppose to save an entire kingdom of magical creatures. She is the reincarnation of one of the creators of the world.
Veronica: Truth And Purity
Caleb is another character. He is a friend of her love interest. He also gets turned into a vampire in the first book. Out of her love interest, Caleb, and thier other friend, he is pretty much the voice of reason.
Caleb: Faithful, Bold

Sometimes writers just name a character randomly. There's nothing wrong with this. Some of the best character names come from nowhere at all.
Made-Up Names!
Sometimes writers create names themselves. This definatly gets a thumbs up on my "Kudos" meter. Mostly because you use your own imagination to make them.
Take another one of my characters. Brielle (Bree-el). A sweet, animal loving girl. I made her name up myself. For some reason, i'm positive the name will show up on a website somewhere! But for the moment, I created it myself. So let me enjoy my victory dance in peace.

We decided to camp out by a near forest with a small waterfall by it. My burnt hair from the fire was irritating me so I decided to wash my hair in the waterfall. The water was cold, but I didn't care. Bruno felt my hair. I smiled warmly. I said like I wasn't a helper " So, where are your parents?' He said " Well, after I was born, a witch stole my mother, killed her, and I have no dad. So I'm an orphan" I thought ' I wish he could tell, he wouldn't have to do this, he wouldn't have to tell me bad mermories.' " I love you." said Bruno. " I love a person for a person." 'Well, I'm not a person. Im a helper! Why can't you tell? Im a helper! I love a person for a person too! But you're not a person! But I love you!'Bruno said he would go out to the forest to get get some food. After my hair was washed, I sat down. Why can't he tell I'm a helper? But then, I heard a scream in the woods. I could tell who it was.... Bruno.
