When Marnie Was There is a 2014 Studio Ghibli film.
The Plot:
The film is about Anna, a socially uncomfortable young girl. She lives with nice, but suspicious foster parents. Due to some problems she spends some time with her uncle and aunt. While there she becomes best friends with Marnie, a mysterious girl.
The film's plot is really good. Although the storyline is quite dark the passionate bond between Anna and Marnie leads to some of the most emotionally impactful and heartwarming scenes ever. The film is pretty much just focused on Anna and Marnie so the film isn't overloaded with too many plots and characters.
The Characters:
I relate very much to both Anna and Marnie. I relate to Anna's social issues and over worrying. I relate to Marnie's dedication to being optimistic. The 2 girls are a good duo who are heartwarming and cute together. My favorite scenes are when they are sharing screen time together. There's a supporting character named Sayaka who is a helpful and interesting character. Anna's uncle, Mr. Oiwa, provides good relief.
The Animation:
The animation is incredible. The characters, outfits, and everything else is so well done. It's 1 of the top 10 best looking films that I've ever seen. It's such a gorgeous film that it looks like a art showcase.
Overall:
The film is 1 of the greatest films that I've ever seen. I highly recommend the film to people who want a high quality female starring masterpiece. Also I recommend the film to people that love drama films.
