Anna: The protagonist of the film. Anna is a young girl who is very depressed. She's a foster child who's upset that her foster mom is getting payed to take care of her. Anna likes to draw pictures of a mansion.

Marnie: The deuteragonist of the film. Marnie is a mysterious blonde girl that Anna meets. The two of them develop a close bond. Marnie lived in the mansion that Anna liked to draw.

Sayaka: Sayaka is a girl that currently lives at the mansion that Marnie used to live at. Sayaka becomes friends with Anna.

Kiyomasa Oiwa: Anna's friendly, goofy foster uncle.

Setsu Oiwa: Anna's nice foster aunt.

Yoriko Sasaki: Anna's foster mom who is concerned about Anna's depression.
