"Genre" means what type of show it is: drama, comedy, soap, or a mix of them all.

Genre means a type of anything. it's not exclusive to any spacific media or entertainment.

Probably the ones in the story I'm working on right now, although the TVD ones are fine too, just not sold on the whole vampires that sparkle thing that Twilight has going.

Have you ever heard of a "classic vampire"? classic is the genre of which many would include Dracula and Nosferatu.

Vampire movies are typically a sub-genre of horror films. Though neither of the options available in this pick are exactly horrific, the whole idea of their existence is still creepy.

I for one, don't see individual works as genres in themselves. Genres are specific styles to me, so Twilight is not a genre by itself, but "vampire romance" would be a genre, or "modern vampires" (both of which Twilight can belong to).
