The Winx Club Article: My thoughts on the Nick dub

just to be clear this is my opinion so don't be starting any rage in the comments k? And i'm not gonna bring up the rai version because no one really likes that version.

Now, honestly my favorite dub is the nick dub. Why you ask? Because they aren't nearly as disrepectful as the 4kids dub, (which btw is my least fave dub) Here are my reasons.

1. The voices
Now I know shit load of people are gonna disagree with this but i actually prefer the nick dub voices over the 4kids voices.

In 4kids Flora's voice was WAY too sweet. Yes she's a sweet person and should have a sweet voice but not so sweet she sounds weak!
The Nick dub to me did a perfect blend, sweet but not super sweet.

I honestly didn't like the 4kids voice Musa had. No offense to Lisa ortiz (voice of Musa) but her voice reminded me of a bug.
The Nick dub voice actress for her, Romi Dames, was much better.

And Tecna's voice, 4kids, for whatever stupid reason gave Tecna a british or whatever accent. In the original (italian version.) She's american and isn't supposed to have any accent at all. I'm glad with the change Nick made.

Aisha, Stella, and Bloom are fine. Although, when Bloom grunts after she uses a spell it does get quite annoying. And Stella's voice is more brattier then the 4kids one which does get annoying.

2. They're respect to the original (italian)

Like i said some where else the Nick dub shows respect to the original, as in they don't change every goddamn thing like 4kids did. Here are some examples of what I mean.

Aisha's name. The 4kids changed her name to Layla which was fucking pointless the original name was Aisha and Nick fixed it but now they keep getting accused for changing it by fans. Which really grinds my gears when i watch an episode on youtube then go through the comments and all i see is this, " Why did nick change the name to Aisha?" Or... "I hate the nick dub i prefered the name Layla to Aisha." Let's move on.

Musa's personality "change".
Sure her personality did change but who changed it? No other then the 4kids dub. They decided to give Musa a hip hoppy personality, which in the original she does not have. Nick fixed this and are getting some rage for doing so when all they are doing fixing the mistakes 4kids made and left. Let's make one more example.

The Nick dub keeps all the scenes. You may not know it but 4kids cut out a ton of scenes. i'll give you one scene. In season 3 ep. 19 you see the winx wearing these gymnastic outfits or whatever. I forgot what they were talking about. I think they were watching something on the news or something then started talking about Stella's dad, countess cassandra, and chimera. When they were done 4kids skipped the scene of them dancing and Stella making a fool of herself and what not. The Nick and i think the rai dubs kept the scene. I know the Nick dub kept it, not sure about rai.

And just one last thing...
I've seen lots of people on Fanpop, in THIS club rage on NICK about the mushy gushy so called love between Icy and Tritannus. Don't rage on Nick, rage on the original because it's the original who decided to have this romance.

lovebaltor I'm sorry but all the voices in Nick sound the same to me. Flora's voice is all weird and throaty; Stella is just as bratty (If not more) sounding in the Nick dub; Musa sounds like Tecna; Tecna sounds like a mix of Musa and Bloom. I can never really distinct them from one another. (The only one who sounds different is Layla and that's because she's voice by Keke who has an accent) And Rai used "Layla" as well. 4kids isn't the only one who used it, so you can't get all butt-hurt over that name change. Ya doi. Everyone in the U.S watched the 4kids version of the show, that's why when Nick switched it back to Aisha, everyone was confused. (I wasn't because I knew that's what her name was in the original) Rai was mainly in Europe. (Not sure where the English of their dub was aired, but I never saw it in the U.S) 4kids changed Musa's personality? Please. She's a tomboy in the first season, as well as the second. (Not so much in the third) And "hip-hoppy"? Uh...isn't she the fairy of [i]music[/i]? And she's not even acting like uh—whatever "hip-hoppy" means. She was sassy, independent and strong. Which is what her character is. If anything, her personality had a big change in season four. (All of them did, really) They became so much girlier. And did 4kids dub that season? No, so I don't see where this issue on her personality has come from. Nick kept all the scenes? Are you kidding me? They had season two mashed into a one hour special. I doubt they're going to have all the episodes in there. (Same goes for season one which was spread into three one hour specials) 4kids edited out only a few scenes due to censorship. The biggest one that I know of is instead of Musa slapping Icy, she made a mole pop unto her face.

florasedge31 ^ Okay yes, I'm sorry i did forget to mention the specials and the movies which the nick dub always rushed. I can tell apart the voices (i must be the only one who can since everyone says they sound the same.) The only reason i used the word hip hoppy is because the wiki site described her as that. And they said 4kids did do that because they wanted to make the show appeal better to an american audience (even though, wheter they had made the changes or not it still would've been appealing.) I know rai used the name Layla as well but like i said in the beginning i wasn't really gonna bring that dub up. K

WinxClub_Stella I completely agree with lovebaltor and think that Musa was [i]supposed[/i] to be "hip-hoppy" as lovebaltor said she [i]is[/i] the fairy of music. And besides with 4kids their personalities were all different, but since season 4 everyone is a girly girl, even Musa, which annoys me because now they're all the same person. Meh, I think they could have put just a bit more effort into the Winx because otherwise they shouldn't have been given the responsibility. They should have given it to 4Kids so Nick could focus on their crappy shows but I've already written an article about this so yeah.

florajames I agree with florasedge here i grew up with nick as it was the only channel i was aloude to watch and as i love winx club so much i started watching 4 kids which was ok but when niclk did it i absolutaly adored it 4 kids didnt do dolls were nick did nick has the best shows ever and i always love it now this is going off winx club but sonic x was a 4 kid show which made the voice sqeeky but nick did it and made sonic awsome and here it is now 22 years later being the best ever and now with there new game lostt world i comes to be the best game ever vote by children and adults and for a secret i was invited to do the voice of flora but i denied it because i didnt want to leave my family

lovebaltor ^ 4kids did too made dolls, are you joking? Mattel made hundreds of Winx dolls after 4kids began airing it on their channel. You could not walk into a Toys R Us without a whole aisle being filled top to bottom with Winx dolls. There were Magic Winx dolls, Charmix dolls, an Alfea play set, action figures, clothes, shoes, outfits for the dolls, books, DVD's...trust me; Nick isn't the first to market the Winx Club name. (And in my opinion, the Mattel dolls and items are much nicer than those ugly Jakk's dolls)

SilentForce I personally like the Nick dub and I think that it doesn't deserve all the hate that it gets from fans.Also I am sick of constantly hearing 4Kids fans hating on Nick because of their Winx Club specials.The specials were produced by Rainbow,all that Nick did was dubbing them into English.The reason why Rainbow produced the specials was to catch up the new fans faster and to not keep the older fans wait too long for the new seasons.The specials really don't count for me either,if you 4kids fans want to make a fair comparison between the 4kids and Nick dub than talk about season 3(the only season that was dubbed by both Nick and 4Kids).And,yes the 4kids dub cut off many scenes,rewrote scenes and changed dialogue.Since I am not in the mood to write them all,I am going o give you the link to a website thats points out all the changes that 4Kids made to Winx Club:http://members.tripod.com/~Rover_Wow/wccio.htm and trust me 90% of these changes were just made for no freaking logical reasons.Don't believe me?Take your time and read all of it.
