In an interview with MTV she says that the similarities in the sounds of her name and Melanies is a cooincidence and unintentional. She acutally named her after people from her past.
I actually listened to her play list and in the song "where sould meets body" it says frequently "melody softly soaring through my atmosphere" It sounds like Melanie and I thought that might be where she got the name from but I guess not.
Ok there are similar letters in each name but do you really think it's that obvious? I honestly hadn't thought about it. I didn't notice it at all until you pointed it out. I believe her when she says it was a coincidence. And I don't really think it's that big of a coincidence anyway.

ya maybe she didnt realize it but she still did it. that was a horrible response.
I think she did that to make you think I mean she is the one who came up with the story so she can name them whatever she wants but I like the name and how she mixed it up, it's cool. Bet you couldn't think of it!!! :)
Yer, when you see the spelling and think it though, possibly. But when yuo say it out loud theres no similsrities really.
And how do you think stpehenie would feel if she saw or heard people commenting about her name and her story badly? How would you feel? probably irrated. Plus, its just a name.

ok, so she wouldnt really see this question but some people do like the name.
I really have no idea but my best guess would be that (i read something like this in an interview with her about twilight) that she picked it because people she knew had the names melanie and stryder! And she possibly chose the name because it was like hers! my best guess, hope it helps
^ Wow, I never thought about that! Melanie's name is just awesome, considering that. JK Rowling does that kind of things with names in Harry Potter, too, I like that. I always thought of the Dutch word 'strijder' when I read 'Melanie Stryder' - because I'm Dutch. That means combatant or battler in English. I think that describes Melanie as wel: she'll always keep fighting.
