As the star of one of Marvel’s biggest franchises, no one would fault Chris Pratt for crapping all over DC. In fact, from the famously brazen and charismatic star, you might expect it. But when asked about the rival franchise, Pratt was objective but honest.
“I really like all the Warner Bros. movies,” Pratt said to io9 at last week’s
junket. “I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies. But one of the flaws might have been they were introducing too many characters in
. They spent 10 minutes telling us why should we care about these characters, rather than creating trilogies for each character and convincing us to care about the characters.”
Pratt then pointed to the way Marvel took their time developing their cinematic universe as the main reason for its success in comparison.
“It’s like hardwood,” he said. “They grew it really slowly so it’s strong. They didn’t create
. And they tested it to make sure it worked. Then they did [
. And they created a thirst for these characters, and that’s when they put them in
Pratt, who is also part of a few other burgeoning cinematic franchises in the
movies, thinks, even with Marvel’s slow and steady process, the whole idea of creating a franchise isn’t a science.
“It’s really fucking hard to do,” Pratt said, “And it’s kind of a miracle that anyone’s got it right. You know? So. I think it comes down to Kevin [Feige], his filmmakers, and ultimately, me, playing Star-Lord.”
