Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members, the most endearing is the one between Michael Dorn, who played the strong-and-silent Lt. Worf, and Marina Sirtis, who played the empathic and emotional Counselor Troi.

And that was readily apparent from the moment the actors visited BuzzFeed’s Los Angeles office together recently and were asked about what brought them together (platonically, of course).

“He’s the only one who can put up with me, really, for long periods of time,” Marina said. “I’m a cow, so I don’t know why anybody’s my friend, especially this one.”

Michael is quite certain of the strength of their 26-year friendship. “I’ve always been attracted to very strong women,” he said. “I don’t know why. I was just very attracted to our sort of chemistry. We’re just crazy about each other.” (Yes, technically, they have known each other for 27 years, but as Sirtis explained, the first season of the show, “We hated each other.”)

Star Trek: TNG Season 6 — which features some standout Worf and Troi episodes — Michael and Marina agreed to test the strength of their friendship and undergo BuzzFeed’s Pop-Culture Relationship Quiz.

The rules: BuzzFeed asks a question about Michael, Michael writes down the real answer, and Marina writes down her best guess of the answer, and then vice versa. But this took some getting used to.

1. What does Michael get asked the most about Star Trek?

Michael’s answer: How long does it take to [put] makeup on!!

The answer to the question, by the way: “It started out at three and a half hours and they got it down to two hours.”

Marina’s answer: Why so many cozzies [i.e., costumes]?

MS: Basically, the reason I wasn’t in the space suit when we started was because I was too fat, and it just didn’t look good. And then [creator] Gene [Roddenberry] decided that if I wasn’t going to be wearing the space suit, and I was a counselor, it would put people at their ease if I was wearing regular clothes and not a military uniform.

3. If Marina could go anywhere on the holodeck, where would she go?

Marina’s answer: World Cup Final with England — “which totally would have to be on the holodeck [because] it ain’t going to happen in real life.”

4. If Michael could go anywhere on the holodeck, where would it be?

Michael’s answer: San Francisco. “It’s a very cool town — always liked it. Always thought it was a really hip place to go.”

Marina’s guess: Anywhere in his plane. “Because [Michael] would fly to San Francisco, so that’s a half a point for me.” (Michael is an accomplished pilot.)

They even pronounced it the same unusual way: “Otello,” with the “h” silent.

6. That went so well, surely Michael knows what Marina’s dream role is.

Michael’s guess: Ophelia (but he first wrote Maria Callas, and then scratched it out).

Michael’s guess: When I kissed her (not because of sex).

Marina’s guess: “My off camera in that ep” — which required a bit of explanation.

According to Marina, when she has to get emotional in a scene, she doesn’t usually get emotional in rehearsal, so she doesn’t “use it up.”

They both agreed, though, that when Troi broke Worf’s arm, Marina bragged about it “for months.”

“So he gets half a point for that,” said Marina, forgetting that it was her turn to guess. “But I’m still winning.”

9. If Worf was in an ’80s hair-rock band, what would it be?

(Whatever Michael thought was the answer would be “correct.”)

10. If Troi was the host of a talk show, who would be her biggest competition?

Michael knew the answer right away. Marina wasn’t so sure.

Michael’s guess: Oprah — “Oprah’s a force of nature,” he said. “And you’d be a force of nature.”

Again, Michael thought he knew the answer immediately.

“But, you know what, give him half a point,” she said, “because I was going to write chocolate.”

Got to sympathize with Marina on this one — as Troi would tell him in a heartbeat, there shouldn’t be any guilt attached to the miracle that is chocolate.

12. Marina also found her (totally off) guess for Michael’s guilty pleasure to be hysterical.

The final results: Michael with half a point, and Marina with 3.5 points.
