‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Rumors: Rita Ora Speaks Out About Sequel; Will She Reprise Her Role As Mia Grey?

It appears at least one “Fifty Shades of Grey” cast member is ready to begin filming the erotic romance’s highly anticipated sequel. While Universal Pictures has yet to confirm that the second book in author E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades” series is being adapted for the big screen, one of the original film’s stars, singer and actress Rita Ora, has spoken out about the “Fifty Shades Darker” movie.

In an interview with Glamour magazine Monday, Ora dished about her plans for filming the blockbuster film alongside actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and said about the potential sequel, “I do know that it is in the very early stages, so I don’t know that much.”

While the “Black Widow" singer didn’t divulge what she does know about the project, she did say she is excited about the prospect of filming the follow-up. “I can’t wait to know, because trust me, I’ll be the first to be like, ‘Rah!’ ” she said.

Ora, noting she is “passionate” about acting, said she is thrilled to dive back into playing Mia Grey, Dornan’s character Christian Grey’s adopted sister. After having only a brief cameo in the first film -- she had four lines -- Ora said she would be pleased to revisit her character in “Darker.” “Moving forward, it’s going to be exciting to get back into it,” she said.

Ora’s comments come on the heels of “Fifty Shades of Grey” producer Dana Brunetti’s statements about the film. Following rumors of director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s departure and rumblings that the lead actors are seeking salary renegotiations, the filmmaker dished about the sequel to the Hollywood Reporter.

“We literally have no idea what we’re going to do,” Brunetti said. “I have not even met with the studio or anybody yet about the second film.”

As for rumors Dornan and Johnson were seeking seven-figure raises for “Darker" and a potential third film based on James’ “Fifty Shades Freed,” Brunetti said he was not willing to increase the potential sequel’s budget to beef up his stars\' paychecks.

“Look, when I was starting out and had to cut my teeth and build my résumé to get in, I had to basically work for free on a lot of things. I still take reductions in my fees for the opportunities to do certain things. ... So I\'m not going to cry for anybody who wants to be in this business just because a thing they were involved in did very well and they didn\'t get paid [a lot]. That\'s not the deal that you made," he said.

Despite there being no official announcement for “Darker,” Taylor-Johnson reportedly did confirm that the film was in the works during an NBC “Fifty Shades of Grey” fan screening in February. IMDb has the film scheduled for a 2017 release.
