Nightwish is my favorite band, but I consider them metal, not rock. So I guess my favorite *rock* band goes to Within Temptation. (They're official genre falls under Symphonic Metal but I don't consider them metal. They're last two albums are also very, very modern rock-oriented, so I think they could probably be more standard rock as well as symphonic.).
