I have seen dozens of rumors online about an American version, but as far as I can see, none of these rumors have been confirmed. So there may be, there may not be, but for now I'm leaning towards not.

There has been talk of an American live action movie for many years.
Zac Efron did have an interview about becoming Light Yagami.

Who knows if it will ever happen.

And also, I'm all for Zac being Light hahah. Dude has really grown as an actor. And they look really similar.
