It doesn't simplify without knowing x, y, or what the equation equals, I think. Someone should probably confirm this because I'm always so insecure when it somes to math.

That's what I'm not too sure of because theres a question similar to this one that is written in my homework so I got no idea :/

ya I think it would depend on what you're learning, it could be equal to zero or it could be a trick question

9y-3x?

I can't think of any other way to simplify it, sorry. Unless it's an equation equal to 0 and you want it to equal y? But I don't think that's simplifying it... I don't know, haha.

Well you can't simplify it cause there are no coefficents as in 4 or 2 or 17. The 9 has a y next to it and you can't add it to the negative 3x until you know what y is.

Yes I'm a geek in math. Its pretty much the only class I'm passing

I thought the 9 and the 3 were coefficients...

No because they have the letter next to them

But that's what coefficients are, right? The number next to the variable, which in this situation are y and x?

Your probably right. I can't remember the vocab in math.

I put it in a math engine online so it will give you the answer and I got -27xy, but I think that's totally wrong.

If you want me to solve and get a solid real number, I can't do that without the other part of the problem, but if it's simplify as in reduce then wouldn't it just be 3y+-x because you divid both sides by 3? I don't know. It's nearly midnight and I'm exhausted.

I think the only way you could divide both sides by 3 is if there was an equal sign between them.

not if you were simply reducing just to make it look nicer. If you were solving for a whole number answer then there would have to be an equal sign.

=D I guess my teachers must be pretty messed up then.
