What's the difference between a cigarette and an ecigarette?

I don't smoke either, and I was wondering, what is the difference?
Ecigarettes are electronic but whats the point of having electronic cigarettes? Do they have less nicotine or something?

ok good question you know i askd the same question at drug class and the teach said they are both the same but the eciggarete doestn have any second hand smoke...but its still a cancer stick..
