Pretty Little Liars S5.05 Review – ‘Miss Me x 100′
Some people celebrate milestones with cakes, Pretty Little Liars prefer explosions to keep things festive. ‘Miss Me x 100’ was full of old friends and a party the Liars are sure never to forget!
Ali returns to school, but it’s the announcement for Spencer to report to the office that had me shocked. Since when are any of the Liars summoned alone?
Since Mrs. Hastings broke out of the spa Mr. Hastings dropped her off at! Veronica wastes no time with long explanations, she’s leaving Peter and Spencer’s coming with her. At home, Spencer packs and demands answers. Veronica, like the rest of us, believes that her husband killed Mrs. DiLaurentis, though that’s not why she’s leaving.
Instead of going to the spa, Veronica researched her husband’s alibi and discovered that he wasn’t with Melissa at a diner. If she gets bored being a lawyer, she and Spencer really could open Hastings PI.
Veronica assumes that Peter’s broken their pact not to involve their children in their lies and that’s all she’s willing to say. She’s suffered the affair with the neighbor, the love child and God knows what else, but Spencer’s mom isn’t going to sit by and allow him to put her kids in danger.
Poor Spencer is shaken about the break-up of her family and can only bring herself to tell Hanna. She can’t even admit the truth to Ashley Marin, who is by far the coolest of the Liar moms
Congrats on being able to say I’m sorry, Ali. You still haven’t quite mastered how to mean it, but we’re all a work in progress, right? After promising to make it up to everyone she tortured (as if there are that many days in an entire high school career, let alone senior year), Ali turns the manipulations up to high. Though she schemes hard, the only person buying the Alison Apology Tour are two girls I’ve never heard of before, Cindy and Mindy. And of course, our favorite lovefool Emily who teeters over the line between Team Ali and Team Ali’s Victims with grace (more about that balancing act later).
After being deserted by her besties both at and after school, Ali tries to make it home but is followed by a car and runs into the church that has seen more funerals than most funeral parlors (and also where Ian tried to kill Spencer and ‘A’ killed Ian). Not exactly a safe haven, Ali.
Mona pops out like she’s a jack-in-the-box and the divas via for Rosewood’s Bitch Crown. Playing up sweet and sorry, Ali tries to make amends, but Mona’s not buying. Ali’s nice girl mask slips after Mona smacks her and she attacks back. Not sure what kind of ring she was wearing to leave that mark on Mona’s face, but ladies of Rosewood be warned, you will get messed up if you girl fight Alison DiLaurentis.
When the Liars answer Ali’s SOS, she plays victim and tells them that Mona has gone off the deep end and riles them up, insisting that Mona knows they were all in New York and is working with a team of people who hate them. Liar logic insists the girls worry about New York and how Mona was able to text them instead of the car of haters following Ali in Rosewood. Have you forgotten how much ‘A’ loves cars, ladies? Spencer hits the internet and discovers blusnarfing, this allows you to send texts to nearby phones without having a number.
The mystery of the text solved, the Liars walk into school ready to face the day and defend Alison against Mona. Too bad for Ali, Mona’s still a step ahead. Pulling out her phone, Mona shows Rosewood High her showdown with Ali, giving Ali the bad girl edit.
The girl who just demanded her friends memorize a recording of her last statement of lies really should have seen that video coming. Mona’s definitely the frontrunner in this war.
Karma’s a bitch and it looks like Jenna’s still paying for the damage she did before Ali’s prank took her sight. In case you forgot, that consisted of forcing Toby to have sex with her, though I’m sure Ali would feel that Jenna’s big sin was refusing to be her minion.
Shauna’s death brings Jenna back to Rosewood and Toby rushes to the bus stop to take her home. Spencer worries about keeping the truth about Shauna’s death from Toby and Aria insists that Spencer can tell him the truth. It’s a lovely gesture, but I’m gonna stand with Alison, giving them the side eye. You can’t just go around admitting you murdered someone (or watched your friend do it)! After watching her parents’ marriage of lies implode, Spencer decides to tell Toby.
Deciding she wants to wear an orange jump suit for the rest of her life, Aria goes to Jenna’s to extend her sympathies. After Aria walks into Jenna’s house and bellows for the poor girl before running away, Jenna shows up and wants to know what Aria was doing there. Aria babbles in attempt to empathize, but Jenna can’t imagine that Aria knows what she’s feeling; Aria has her friends, Jenna’s alone.
Toby rushing to her side didn’t seem like she was alone to me, but Aria’s guilt is working overtime so she invites her in.
Thankfully Ezra (two words I’d never thought I’d place together) spells it out for Aria. Shauna tried to kill him, he has the bullet wound to prove it. She would have killed the Liars too, if Aria hadn’t acted. I wonder if maybe I should have a change of heart on Ezra, but instead of telling Aria the only thing she did wrong was leave the scene of a crime, he goes back to his cradle robbing ways. The only good thing about their make out session was that it was set to “Every Breath You Take.” Thank you for acknowledging his creepy stalker ways,
You know that relationship we all have to go through? The one that happens in high school (or middle school, if you were more popular than me)? You really like someone, they really like stringing you along and no matter what they do you put their happiness first?
Emily’s thing for Alison is that relationship, the most accurate portrayal of it on TV. For 100 episodes, I’ve shook my head at Em’s inability to see past Ali’s manipulations, torn between pity (as someone who has been there) or disgust (as someone who is embarrassed she’s been there).
Ali gives Emily more than hope with a slumber party make out session and some whispered sweet nothings about their kisses not just being for practice. Can you blame the girl for being confused? Ali’s meltdown with Mona has Em pissed and she even calls Ali out on using kisses to smooth over problems, but Em ends the episode clasping Ali’s hand. Hanna’s not the only wondering if they’re together. Are they? Should we be rooting for them? I still don’t see Ali’s affection for Em as anything but a ploy to keep her favorite toy close.
Until she put on those sunglasses, I had no idea how much Emily’s Swim Stalker looked like Jenna. Is this the twin shout out for the book fans? Could Jenna be a twin and Toby not know it?
Twin, cousin or just a wanna be clone, Emily’s Swim Stalker and Jenna meet up with Mona for an Anti-Ali powwow. With a member of her team assigned to every Liar – Swim Stalker is getting the inside story on Emily, Jenna’s working Aria and has access to Spencer through Toby and Lucas is rekindling his friendship with Hanna – Mona can trust Jenna when she says the Liars don’t want to go back to the way things were with Ali either and Mona knows they finally have a shot to be rid of Ali forever.
Oh Travis. You were my favorite of the cute, bland, vanilla filler boyfriends and it was great to see you again. Now that Caleb’s back, you’re history. Or maybe you’ll go crazy and end up at Radley. Nothing good will come of you Travis.
Caleb doesn’t know that though and it’s annoying. After Hanna bumps into him getting coffee, he plays wounded puppy that she’s ordered 2 coffees and has a date. Dude, let me remind you of two things. First, you broke up with her. Second, Miranda.
Hanna deals with Caleb’s reappearance by ignoring Travis at Lucas’ party, downing spiked punch and texting Caleb. Tipsy Hanna is Fun Hanna, it’s nice to see her tease Lucas about his sex life with the possibly imaginary girlfriend from Philly like the two of them are still friends. Travis isn’t as impressed with Tipsy Hanna and takes her home.
Continuing her Rosewood’s Greatest Mom streak, Ashley gets Hanna into bed and gives concern, rather than a lecture. Ashley promises there will be consequences tomorrow, when Hanna can remember it, but those consequences are never seen. Maybe it’s because Hanna tells her Caleb’s back or maybe it’s just the grand tradition of parenting without penalties in Rosewood.
Lack of punishment frees Hanna up to find Caleb, who glosses over
faster than ABC Family cancelled it, and admits he didn’t call because Travis is a good guy and he wants Hanna to be happy. Before Hanna can say she’s not happy without him (you know its coming, Haleb fans), the Liars text her to meet up ASAP; Rosewood PD has figured out who is in Ali’s grave. Since the Liars figured this out already, it’s not too earth shattering, but the police do are calling Ali’s kidnapping alleged, so I guess they’re getting better at police work?
Never one to take a backseat, ‘A’ grabs having the Ali, the Liars, Toby, Caleb and Ezra in one room and sends her favorite kind of greeting, destruction by car. Em’s windows implode from the force of car bomb and Toby’s house is up in flames. I hope Jenna’s not in there, Hanna’s already had to pull her out of flames once, and no idea how Mrs. Fields is going to explain this to the insurance people! ‘A’ needs to spread the home destruction around, Emily had her turn. Is it wrong that I’m more concerned with the destruction Ali eyeing Caleb could mean for Haleb than ‘A’?
Did ‘Miss Me x 100’ rock your world or is your house still standing? Head over to the forum and let us know what you think!
