Percy Jackson & The Olympians Books Question

Why didn't Percy and the gang just bring a compass into the Labyrinth so they knew they were in the right direction?? O.o

*
Well for one, they didn't know what direction the workshop was....

For another thing, the labyrinth always changes and moves around, it could outsmart them, lead them in the wrong direction, trick them, yadda, yadda, yadda....

The labyrinth changes constantly. You can't trust that by going south, you'll still be going south in half and hour.

The labyrinth also probably has another strong magnetic force that would interfere with the compass anyways.

Well, since it is all magical and godly and whatnot, mortal devices are virtually garbage. I think if you tried, it would just go around in circles.

Even if the compass worked, which it wouldn't, the maze keeps rearranging itself, so you will never know which way to go. The only 2 "compasses" that work, are adriane's string, and a mortal able to see through the mist.
