The drive to the hospital seemed like hours. Everyone was silent. They were too worried about Anjanette to talk. Ferdinand was uneasy. How could this happen to Anjanette? What if she never woke up? What if he was going to lose his best friend for real? No, she had to be okay. She just had to! Tammy was still distraught. She couldn't stop thinking of the incident. She remembered hearing glass break and then seeing Anjanette lying on the floor, unresponsive. Blitz was desperately trying to wake her. What would Blitz do if Anjanette never woke up? Sure, he would still find a home, but Anjanette really brought him out of his shell. They soon arrived at the hospital. Uncle Bruce gave them his information. The doctor soon came in. He asked, "How is she?" The doctor said, "She's still unconscious, but she's coming around." Tammy said, "Gosh, she's been unconscious for twenty minutes now. Why won't she wake up?" The doctor said, "Well, she took a nasty hit to the head. However, her prognosis looks good. She just has a mild concussion. She'll need to take it easy for a few weeks, and you'll need to keep an eye on her the next twenty-four hours. As she sleeps, wake her up every hour, and get her to talk to you. If she's not making sense, or if she doesn't wake up, bring her back to the hospital." Uncle Bruce said, "Thank you, doctor. May we see her now?" The doctor said, "Yes, you may. Just be gentle with her." The doctor lead them to the room. Anjanette didn't stir as they neared her. Uncle Bruce placed a hand on her shoulder. She opened her eyes. "Uncle Bruce?" she murmured. He said, "Yeah, it's me." She asked, "Where am I?" He said, "You're in the hospital." She asked, "How did I get here?" Tammy said, "The ambulance came and brought you here. Are you all right? You were out cold for twenty-five minutes." Anjanette said, "My head hurts, and I feel dizzy." Uncle Bruce said, "That will pass. I'm so glad you're going to be okay. You gave everyone quite a scare. Anyway, there's someone here who wants to see you." Ferdinand and Becky came closer. Anjanette asked, "What are you guys doing here? Did you not have anything better to do?" Becky said, "Anjanette, I think you and I got off on the wrong foot. I like Ferdinand for who he is. He is kind, polite, noble, and I wouldn't change that for the world." Anjanette said, "Really?" Becky nodded "yes". Ferdinand said, "She even insisted that we go to make sure you're okay. I'm sorry you thought I didn't want to be your friend anymore. I didn't know that you were afraid I would abandon you." She said, "It's not your fault, Ferdinand. If I had told you the truth....I'm so sorry." Becky said, "And I'm sorry I hurt your feelings today. I was just joking around with you. The truth is I want to be friends with you." Anjanette said, "To tell you the truth, I don't remember what you said." Becky said, "It's not important. The important thing now is that you need to feel better. We'll all support you as you recover." Anjanette smiled. She said, "I'm glad to know that. I misjudged you, Becky. I'm so sorry." Becky said, "Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you're okay." Tammy said, "I think we're all glad." Just then, her cellphone rang. It was her mother. She asked, "Tammy, how's Anjanette? Is she okay?" Tammy said, "She's fine. I'll put you on speaker." Tammy's mother said, "Hi, Anjanette. How are you feeling?" Anjanette said, "My head hurts, and I feel dizzy, but I'm okay." Tammy's mother said, "I'm so glad you're okay. When you didn't respond, it worried me. I'm glad it's not as bad as it looked. You were so brave to take that blow to the head for Blitz." Anjanette asked, "How is he?" Tammy's mother said, "He was scared, but he's feeling better since the storm ended." Anjanette said, "I'm glad he's okay." Blitz gave a bark of approval upon hearing this. That night, Anjanette was taken home. Her dog, Misty, slept with her. With permission from their parents, Ferdinand and Becky stayed with Anjanette to monitor her along with Uncle Bruce. Anjanette made a full recovery, and she was soon volunteering at the rescue center again.
