It was close to Christmas, and Laura was able to go home to spend time with her family. Once at home, she told her parents about her friends, Ian and Mel. Laura's parents were glad to know she made such good friends. Later, Laura's mother asked, "Did you hear what happened to Kurt?" Laura said, "No." Her father said, "He was killed in a car crash a few weeks ago." A few months ago, Laura would have been filled with sorrow. She didn't feel sorrow. She didn't feel glad. She felt nothing. Her mother asked, "Aren't you sad to know that?" Laura said, "Actually, I don't feel anything. He dumped me for a girl named Natalie a few months ago." Her father said, "I wondered why you stopped talking about him when you called and talked with us." She said, "I was shocked and upset at first. Ian and Mel helped me through." Once she returned to school the following January, Laura told her friends about Kurt's fate. Ian said, "Karma has a way to coming back to you." Mel said, "That's right. It serves him right after what he did to you." Laura said, "I'm glad you helped me get over him. Thanks for that." Mel said, "You're welcome." Ian said, "What are friends for?" The trio embraced and headed to their class together.
