Once Upon A Time Question

Do you think that the indiscriminate love for evil characters might have tragic consequences?

I'm sure everyone heard about the tragedy that happened in Colorado because of someone who liked too much an evil character.

James Holmes burst into a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado and fired indiscriminately at audience members at the new Batman film.

Unwilling to spare anyone, he killed 12, among them a six-year-old girl, Veronica Moser. He wounded 59 others, including a three-month-old baby.
After his arrest he told police that he was the Joker, Batman’s nemesis. Beyond that, nothing.

No, I happen to love Rumplestiltskin, but would never imagine stealing babies, or anything like that. It's not the show's or the character's or the actor's fault that the person is psycho. They are simply a part of the story, and have never told any member of the audience to follow in their footsteps. If some one chooses to act upon these behaviors it's their fault, they're sick. It's in way shap or form the shows fault

Like I said before I for one am not justifying anything I just sympathize and understand. Apparently jay is the same. In all honesty this 'debate' must be getting way too heated if someone who doesn't even like Gina is sticking up for her.

I'm just gonna post our prior discussion (hope you don't mind);

Me - So your personally attacking me now? Do you really think I'm gonna go out and shoot people because I like defending Gina when you (pointlessly) insult her. How about you be more open minded.

That masaqure and my debating are on two totally different levels! I'm not gonna go cut someones heart out to justify Regina lol. And who exactly ate you to say what's right and wrong, someone's a bit full of themselves!

You - killing is wrong. being cruel is wrong. justifying murder and cruelty is wrong. Who says it is wrong?! not me, but the laws of humanity. or.. do you think is right?!
I'm not against liking the way an evil character is show in a show. I just think that justifying and liking, admiring them is so wrong.

I'm not attacking you, just giving you something to think about.

Me - Justify and preforming the act are on whole different levels. Honestly I'm not trying to justify anything, rather I feel sympathy and have an understanding as to why she became that. Laws of humanity varies from country to country. Honestly I have no opinion on right and wrong, it is what it is.

Well can you do so in a less... offensive way please?

To add: No offense but this is a bit ridiculous, it seems like you're taking one man's actions (and possible psychosis, keep in mind he is supposedly a schizophrenia) and stereotyping all villain lovers. As someone who always likes the villains (in shows, books, ect) this really kind of offends me. I think I speak for all, if not, most Regina (or any other villain) fans when I say; we're not just gonna shoot up random buildings to 'justify' villains. Villain fans do have morals you know, we know it's wrong to take a person's life. I for one am not trying to justify their actions I just sympathize and understand their motives. I'm obsessed with Bellatrix Lestrange and I haven't harmed anyone at all because of it. Loving villains doesn't make the tragic consequences, the person doing the loving is what makes them. When making theories like this one mus consider a few things; does the fan in question have an prior mental instabilities, does this fan get too crazily obsessed, is he/she lonely, does he/she have a rough past, ect.

Wrapping things up: To put it simply no, liking villains doesn't make people want to kill or harm anyone. Everyone is different, maybe some people like the man in Colorado will go to extreme to prove their devotion but I would assume most people won't go that far.

" I have no opinion on right and wrong, it is what it is." OMG! if you think that KILLING is not wrong... I'm ceasing all contacts with you. it would be nice if you stopped replying to all my comments. I really feel attacked. I want to think I'm free to post a thought on a picture or pick without you coming and responding to my comment, strating over and over your point, forcing it on me.

When the heck did I say anything like that!? I have no opinion on the matter means I don't think it's right nor wrong. I think it depends; is it self defense is it out of cruelty is it the death sentence, just depends. I feel really attacked as well, that makes two of us. On that one picture when I said 'I think shes cute ^_^' I wasn't responding to you I was making my own separate comment, you responded to me. I'd like the same freedom, but I can't get that now can I? I'd like to view a Regina picture without having to see hate comments or insults, it kind of ruins the fun of the spot when your favorite character keeps getting bashed at every turn. I'd like to post Regina pictures without you coming and posting hate comments. And I'd like you to stop shoving your Regina hate in my face and stop trying to force me into hating Regina. I reflect the attitude I'm given, in the beginning I thought you were a really respectful debater, so I was respecting you and then the insults started coming, I tried to put up with it and continued debating with no insulting, but there is only so much I can take before I need to stick up for myself. What I'm saying is; My appoligies this debate got way out of hand, I got offended, and when I get offended I have a tendency to strike back so to speak. If you wanna start over I'm all game for it; I don't 'try to force my opinions on you' you don't 'hate on Regina at every turn' or something like that. Some kind of agreement. @Jay thanks ^_^

I am a good person who thinks that villains are more interesanting then heroes in movies or stories. I would never REALLY kill anyone.

I am a Colorado girl, so this definitely hit home for me.
But in my opinion, that guy was off his rocker.
I love Rumpelstiltskin to itty bitty pieces, and I do try to justify his actions a lot, but I would never go into a theater in glittery makeup and stab people.
Same goes for Regina. She is one of my absolute favorite characters, but I'm not going to dress up like her and cut people's hearts out.
The shooting in Aurora really did hurt me personally because it had to do with fandom, and fandom is supposed to take you away from reality and to your fairytale land. And this jerk came in and took that away from these people. That's like someone dressing like Regina and shooting me during the OUAT premiere or something. It's horrible, and it's the main reason I hate this guy.
But he just decided to go about it this way, I don't think many other people would. I think he had issues, and tried to resolve them the wrong way.
I could go on about this for days, but I won't. Just...I love everyone in this fandom, Dearies and Evil Regals especially included, and I know you guys would never do that.
*sniffs* okay, I'm done now.
