Most of the time, guys and gals who\'ve been on dates together tend not to be friends afterwards. It all just ends up a bit messy, and before you know it Ed Sheeran\'s writing a top-selling song about the whole thing, right Ellie Goulding? 

Ellie G isn\'t too worried about the potential for awkwardness though, as she\'s revealed that she and ex-thang One Direction\'s Niall Horan are not only pals these days, but they\'ll also be writing some songs together next year. YAY but also EH? 

Despite the fact that Nialler\'s supposed to be taking it easy during the One Direction hiatus, Ellie spilled to The Sun that the pair of \'em have got big plans involving guitars, studios and probably some slightly awks lyrics suggestions. 

"I\'m going to write with him," Ellie explained. "He\'s a really good guitarist and he\'s funny, cheeky, really cool. He\'s been my friend for quite a few years so I\'m really up for it."

Um, we\'re guessing Sheerio isn\'t really invited to this little songwriting sesh then? 

Niall and Ellie aren\'t the only ones who\'ll be squirrelling away in the studio during 1D\'s break. Liam Panye has also hinted that he\'ll be doing some writing behind the scenes, and even suggested that he\'d like to pen some stuff for the boys\' solo careers. CUTE.

Oh crumbs, does this mean we\'ll finally get a heartfelt song about what really went down in the Ellie/Niall/Ed Sheeran love triangle? Gaaaahd yes please.
