Why does Gaara have black circles around his eyes?

It can't be from lack of sleep, because he even had them when he was a baby and he still has them now, even though Shukaku has been extracted from him...

Though, healing the black from his eyes would be hard even if he slept normally now.

When someone has a Jinchuriki inside, it seems like it gives them a trait from the animal. It is like it mixes with their DNA, so it is a permament marking. Naruto has Whiskers like a fox. Even though whiskers make me think of cats more, the dominant marked animals seem to give it.

Yeah, I considered that possibility, too, but Kushina and the other previous nine-tails' jinchuuriki didn't have whiskers.

That was something else i wondered too. It confused me, unless Kishimoto wrote it in as a last mintute thing. Forgetting to add marks. Perhaps it matters if the demon is dormant? Basically sealed.

Well it could be something like if they were born a Jinchuriki or if one of their parents was one... but was Gaara's mother or father the Jinchuriki? The mother part sounds right to me for some odd reason.
