My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Question

Why?

Why do you, as bronies and pegasisters, like to watch//read grimdark and gory things?

Sweet Apple Massacre?
Cupcakes?
Shed.mov?

Why would you watch//read something that you know is going to haunt you?

Does curiosity get the best of you?
Or are you actually fond of these types of things?

I know I'd never watch//read any of those fanfictions//videos because I know they're going to be scary.

I read part of Cupcakes just to see why everyone was freaking out about it. Now I know why. It's the worst possible thing anyone would ever read. Unless you're a fan of grimdark fanfiction.

I understand those who were just curious because they knew nothing about the fanfiction//video they were going tonread or watch. And I have sympathy for you. :)

Exactly.

I understand why people like horror and gore in general but our fandom seems especially obsessed with it sometimes. Maybe it's because it's interesting to see typically sweet and docile characters such as our ponies be seen in a more darker light. Anyway I thought Sweet Apple Massacre sucked hard but I wasn't surprised because it was created by an anti-brony who get all pissy because a brony beat him at COD or something like that. Cupcakes was alright, nothing special but at least it has a place in our fandom.

You want to read a REAL grimdark fanfiction? Read "Cheerilees garden". That out of make people shut up about how scary Cupcakes it.

Personally I only made two grimdark pony stories, the rest are purely comedy and fluff. I prefer to type fanfic where the ponies I love are HAPPY.

Cheerilees Garden is long and boring when it starts and when the killing does actually happens, its just long detailed death after another, its kinda like Saw, not for the reader who just want to get to the point and see somepony die a terrible death, so im gonna be honest Cheerilees Garden bored me. Sweet Apple Massacre was the most gruesome, disgusting, sickening, horrible story i have ever read... It was my favorite, quick to the murder and didnt takes forever to finish

It builds up Cheerilee's feelings and hidden desires as opposed to her just being all "I'm just going to kill ponies for fun being the writer is too lazy to make my story complex. Also the murder scenes are very creative and way more gruesome (Sweetie Belle's death almost made me throw up). No offense, but SAM had terrible grammar and poorly described murder and sex scenes.

the deaths in Sweet Apple Massacre were much more sickening than in Cheerilees Garden, and who cares about grammar when somepony is dying, sure Cheerilee's garden was complex, but thats just another way of saying this is gonna take a while, and SAM ended with a cliffhanger, Cheerilee's Garden might as well have ended with "and she lived happily ever after, the end."

I should've listened when people warned me about Cupcakes...

I don't like it. I didn't know it would be that bad... curiosity got the best of me, yes. I understand. I fainted (literally fainted!) while reading Cupcakes.

I agree, StarWarsFan7. Why do people like them? Just wondering.

Ahh, my friend, don't be too frightened of silly old Cupcakes. Just remember: Giggle at the Ghosties.

i actually like the grimdark stories, it took me some time to get used to them at first, some of them sickened me (Sweet Apple Massacre) and some of them were really long and started to bore me (Cheerilee's Garden) but as soon as i read Trixie's Funhouse, it was just "meh" at that point, and my favorite is Sweet Apple Massacre.

I don't like grimdark, but a lot of people do. People like horror movies and books, and that spills into ponies. I used to think it was absolutely abominable (some of it is), but then I realized that it's just someone's preference. People like scary and gory, and MLP is something so innocent that it's ripe for mutation. I don't approve of that, though. Cupcakes got thrown at me, and I freaked out. But later I returned to finish it, and even though I hated it, I found it somehow interesting. While Cupcakes was horrific and marred Pinkie's reputation, it wasn't as bad as it gets. If one looks at it as a story separate from FiM, then it doesn't seem so bad. Oh, and this cheered me up after reading Cupcakes: link
Kay I'm done rambling.

Shed.Mov didnt really bother me that much. I think the fact that the voices are so hilarious that it's easy to not take it seriously.

Cupcakes I read the whole way through, and I kinda/sorta wish I hadn't. Even though my favorite pony list changes a lot, since i'm so fickle when it comes to that kind of thing, rainbow dash was usually up there near #1, so cupcakes really kind of sickened me, but at the same time it helped to hold on to the fact that it's just a fanfiction.

Sweet apple massacre: I've never read it. I've heard some stuff about it, that it's way worse than cupcakes, but i've never read it. I started reading it once, but I chickened out.

Why do we like grimdark? This is just my opinion, but I believe some of us like grimdark because we like to scare (or sicken) ourselves before going back to the cute, lovable ponies that are My little pony: friendship is magic. I think it helps to hold on to the fact that "It's only a fanfiction" Then again, i've seen the movie version of "Cupcakes" on youtube before, but I wasnt too bothered by that.

At first I hated cupcakes, but I've grown to like it. Rainbow Dash is my second favorite character so it's nothing against her. It is at least respectable for being well written and the characterizations are somewhat believable.

Same with Shed.Mov; I found it creepy at first, but now I love that video.

I absolutely HATE Sweet Apple Massacre after hearing what it's about and I refuse to read it. I think that it is just a festering pile of shit and should be treated as such. Now I don't even like Big Mac that much anymore just because of it. See what stories do to your view on the characters?

The whole "write a gory My Little Pony fanfic" thing has turned into some kind of fad where a bunch of people are going to have a pissing match about who can write the most mindless and tasteless gore fic. :|

But I do like gore, that is if it's done right.

If you want a good gore story, you need to have three things:
1) The gore of course.
2) The ability to invoke a sense of dread in the reader.
3) Being well-written and compelling to read.

Why the bronies and pegasisters like to read and write this sort of stuff? Who knows, really.

I'm actually glad I read sweet apple massacre (I know,VERY unpopular opinion here) because I never noticed big Macintosh before reading it. and I'm not at all bothered by it because big Macintosh is gentle and kind and would never do something like that to his family. He's actually grown to be one of my favorite characters. I also like cupcakes because of her jokes in it-it's a lot like pinkie which is why it scares so many people. Shed.Mov is hilarious to me..with fluttershy's song and the pinkie's line at the end..lol.

I was close to crying when I read Cupcakes, (because I love Pinkie Pie, and to see her character torn apart like that..) But, listening to "Giggle at the Ghosties" taught me just to laugh at how silly it is.

SHED.mov is indescribably silly. It's just like Llamas with Hats.
HELEMENTS OF ARMORY.

I've read Cheerilee's Garden, but I wasn't affected because, frankly, I don't care for Cheerilee or the other rugrats. It was basically SAW for ponies.

Sweet Apple Massacre? Yeah, people ARE sick. :/

Honestly, you should try reading the Rainbow Factory. It's a decent one. It doesn't, at least, have a sh*tload of gore, violence and sex. It's quite decent. I'm not a fan of gore or even fan fiction, but the Rainbow Factory was quite decent.

Cupcakes scared the hell out of me. I eventually passed out halfway of reading it. I just don't like seeing any videos or pictures of these gory fanfictions because I have hemophobia.

Rainbow Factory was a bit wierd for me but at least it was well written and had a semi-intesting concept as opposed to being mindless murder. I still didn't find it all that scary though.

Out of all of those, I've only seen shed.mov, which was frankly disturbing for a while. That was the first and last time I'll watch that.

Cupcakes, I have never read, and I count myself a lucky pegasister. I heard terrible things about it, and I wasn't that intrigued anyway.

Sweet Apple Massacre just sounds disturbing.

I read it because i'm obsessed with grimmdark ponies such as fanfics, animation, flash game, fanarts, etc. They don't scare me, they don't make me puke, they were my inspirations. Thats why i read it. Furthermore, I will going to make my own grimmdark comic soon.

Cupcakes? Ive read it multiple times , not THAT scary. Its gore galore but not scary. Like someone else said, fanfics can seriously change your view of a character. Today, for instance, I read an invader zim fanfic (dont know what invader zim is? Google it! Lolz), I swear that when i finished it, I saw Dib as a horrible homicidal maniac. I was all like wtf :p. Sweet Apple Massacre? Lame, stupid, crappy, short, idiotic, excuse of a fanfic, crappy (did I say crappy twice?) It was the most stupidest story I have read in all my life (im only 13). Cheerilees garden? Disturbing, terrifying, awesome! Now thats what I call a horror fanfic! Heck, I couldnt get past silver spoon and diamond tiaras death.
But, the action of me laughing, giggling, and sneering while reading Sweet Apple Massacre and Cheerilees Garden makes me question about my sanity... e_o

Another good story is SILENT PONYVILLE. Its gory at some parts only and has no sex in it. Basically, if u like the movie "Silent Hill" ull love this fanfic. Another semifamous fanfic is ROCKET TO INSANITY. Its supposedly the sequel to "Cupcakes" . In that story, Rainbow Dash kills Pinkamena. Anyways heres the link to SILENT PONYVILLE link

You see..

That wait there! That's the difference between you and me!

I like such morbid things because it's AWESOME!

Shed.Mov was friggin halious, and the violence is a lot to do with WHY!?

And as for Cupcakes...
Lesson..
The thing is its NOT scary. None of those silly creepy pastas are. In fact I like Cupcakes, cause the writer actually gave me a fair amount of inspiration in the ways he described stuff. And THAT's why I like like..

The real question.. Why do people act as if it ruined their life.. Haven't you ever read my spoof for it. Witch was actually MY WAY of telling people stop taking so damn seriously. IT'S A F***IN STORY! And stop hating on poor Pinkie as well! It will obviously never happen, EVER!

And Sweet Apple Massicure.. Well at least Cupcakes was WORTH reading..

Shed.mov and MLP creepy pastas. Their basically Texas Chainsaw Massacre, nothing else.

It's takes more than over the top torture scenes to be scary. And that all the film and MLP creepy pastas are.. Nothing else.

Gore isn't scary. It's just gore.
Scary is when you DON'T know what happening, or Creepy masks smiling at you, or a ghost,y figure staring at you from a window..

I could go on and on.. But my point is made...
