My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Question

What was your opinion of 'Hearth's Warming Eve'?

I thought it was a very sweet and touching episode. I also liked the part where Fluttershy said, "I am so excited I could just shout!" XD

It is an average episode. It doesn't stand out to me. The idea of an Equestrian equivalent of Christmas is very intriguing. The concept has a lot of potential, that, in my opinion, wasn't fully used. I did like the Starswirl reference. I also approve of the message. However, I was very disappointed, that nothing was clarified about either Celestia or Luna throughout the play. Neither of them even made an appearance in this episode, which is rather surprising, especially since Celestia specifically asked Twilight and her friends to put on a show. Also, Spike finally sings, but I say it doesn't count since you can't hear him. The mane 6 played their parts well, as I was secretly hoping. So, in a nutshell: the episode was so-so. There were some funny bits, but overall I give it a 6/10.

*edit: it's really too bad none of the mane 6 were wearing the outfits Rarity made in the previous episode.

Yeah, I thought the same thing about Celestia and Luna here. I mostly share your opinions of the episode. I liked it, but it wasn't as good as it could have been.

I loved it! But if I could change a few things, I would change:
•Pinkie and Applejacks roles- I think it would fit better because Applejack tends to argue more with Rainbow Dash and Rarity than Pinkie does
•The Unicorns-how come they raised the sun and moon? Wasn't that the Princesses job? And didn't Celestia and Luna exist much longer than the ponies portrayed in the play? Or did this happen way before they were born?
•The flag at the end- CELESTIA AND LUNA ARE ON IT. that proves they existed at the time. And since they did, why didn't they make day and night? Or maybe they did, and the unicorns just pretended to.

Overall, it was a great episode. But there are some things I would change.

I agree.

It is stated in the beginning of the story, that this takes place long before Celestia's rule. The flag doesn't say much. After all, in many historical reenactments they use the wrong flags. It's just a play. Maybe they don't even know what their original flag looked like.

I very much disliked it.

When I first read about it on EqD, I was like "OH. MY. CELESTIA. I'M GOING TO FINALLY FIND OUT THE HISTORY OF CELESTIA AND LUNA AND HOW THEY CAME TO BE AND HOW DISCORD TOOK CONTROL AND FINALLY GET SOME QUESTIONS ANSWERED AND WATCH AS 90% OF FANFICTION WRITERS CRAWL TO THE CORNER IN SHAME! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHA!"

....

So, all the ponies skipped Hearth's Warming Eve last year? Why does Celestia not appear in HWE? She's the one that dragged everypony over there, even the CMC. And what about Luna? How the hell did Derpy get access to the stage? Why was Applejack cast as the Earth Pony leader's assistant instead of leader? She's a LOT more forceful than Pinkie Pie. And Pinkie Pie seemed far too malicious for...well...Pinkie Pie. Why is the Equestria flag Celestia and Luna, but they are nowhere to be seen? And why do the Pegasi seem rich and noble, but the Unicorn Leader calls them "rough and tumble"? And the Unicorn race look like they've gone through the Black Plague.

All in all, I was looking for an episode that answers my questions. This one raised even more. Look, MLP:FiM is basically my life, but this episode bugged me.
