Said it in the title. Canon is canon. Merlin loved Freya with all his heart, same way Arthur loved Gwen. Those are facts, and this will not change. Ever.

Merlin and Freya belonged together. They understood each other and balanced each other out perfectly. Merlin gave her the love, kindness, protection an affection she had been deprived from, whereas Freya enabled him to be himself, and made him forget his Camelot-related worries. They had the same dreams, wanted the same things, the same life. They were honestly adorable together 😊 And Merlin loved her just the same even after finding out about her curse, which proves that it was true love ❤️ They were also really similar in terms of personality : sweet, gentle and innocent. Their love was so pure. Those two were seriously OTP goals and belonged together 💖

Arthur and Gwen. Aaahh those two were just relationship goals. She helped him become less “bullyish” over time and always brought out the best in him. She taught him basic morals and made him more empathetic towards others. He overall turned into a better person ever since he fell in love with Gwen. Remember when she invited him to her house and confronted him about his lack of consideration and kindness ? And Arthur actually listened and tried to make up for it by cooking her dinner ! How cute ! This was stubborn, arrogant Arthur, suddenly turning into a soft, delicate man. I mean, I know that he didn’t actually cook her dinner, but to be fair, he did try ! But poor guy just didn’t know what to do with a raw chicken ( which was fairly understandable 😅 ). And it’s the intention that matters. He was ready to change and get out of his comfort zone for her. How beautifully romantic is that ? Also, remember back in season 1, when he criticises Hunith’s food and Gwen tells him off about it ? Well, Arthur apologises, and tell her that she was right. And this was before he fell in love with her ! She was the only one who could have that effect on him. He never really apologised to anyone before her. Gwen changed Arthur for the better and he gave her complete trust about it. OTP. Also, I believe that the whole “cooking dinner” thing was a symbolism to show his will to change for her. ❤️ And Arthur is perfect for her, because he, just like her, has a disdain for injustice and they both fight and stand up for what they believe in. I feel like Gwen standing up to Agravaine in season 4 about closing the Lower Town’s doors was a parallel to Arthur standing up to Uther in season 2, about the whole tax thing. Arwen for life.
