Gandalf: (continuing with a whisper) Sauron fears you, Aragorn. He fears what you may become. And so he'll strike hard and fast at the world of Men. He will use his puppet, Saruman, to destroy Rohan. War is coming. Rohan must defend itself, and therein lies our first challenge for Rohan is weak and ready to fall. The king's mind is enslaved, it's an old device of Saruman's. His hold over King Théoden is now very strong. Sauron and Saruman are tightening the noose. But for all their cunning we have one advantage. The Ring remains hidden. And that we should seek to destroy it has not yet entered their darkest dreams. And so the weapon of the enemy is moving towards Mordor in the hands of a Hobbit. Each day brings it closer to the fires of Mount Doom. We must trust now in Frodo. Everything depends upon speed and the secrecy of his quest. Do not regret your decision to leave him. Frodo must finish this task alone.

Aragorn: He's not alone. Sam went with him.

Gandalf: (pleased) Did he? Did he indeed? Good. Yes, very good. -the two towers EE

i dont think he was completely forgotten

At least Frodo says(not once)that without Sam he couldn't accomplish his task, and it seems to me that in the movie this was too.

Ok, I agree that Sam should of gotten a little more credit. But, You are forgetting how powerful the ring was. It was the ring that drove Smeagle to madness. And lets not forget how it gives the bearer an unusually long lifespan (It is not without it's perks). In The movie 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King' Sam almost gets taken over by the ring. But in the end of the last movie, Sam does get the girl. :).

I love Sam and agree he is really important, but the thing is Sam isn't the one carrying the ring, or the one really assigned (couldn't think of a better word) with taking the ring to Mordor, he's just there to help Frodo, and I Agree with people who have said that, they don't think Sam could have carried the ring himself, Frodo is a very strong character (i love him too =)) but also, Frodo couldn't have done it without Sam's support,

ya he should have got mentioned more but i don't think they totally forgot him because in the third movie gandalf says to aragorn,"Everyday Frodo moves closer to mordor alone and aragorn says,"He's not alone sam went with him, and Gandalf says,"Good.
