Why are the barricade boys called "Friends of the ABC"?

I couldn't put this in quiz because it doesn't really work as a multiple choice, but if you know the answer or you know french go ahead (hint: it is a french play on words)

Actually, it's the other way around. It's called les amis de l'ABC which sounds like abaises (which means poor or outcasr)

in fact the café where they hung out at was called that because of the les amis, the café was called La Musain:)
