In the book the relationship was more emphasized, but in the movie it was like the relationship was only mentioned in passing. Also, in the book it was clear they were dating, but in the movie it could have been just a kiss because they barely showed any part of their relationship afterward. To the audience members who hadn't read the books, it could have been just a random kiss.
