I think he was frightened of Death, but definitely gave in when the time came.

Yes to see Lily but also I believe he was tired of being alone and saw nothing of a future. Despite the relationship and wrongs Albus did to him he was the last he had. Plus what few remaining Deatheaters were at the end would know what he was (aka Dumbledors Man, his spy) and the rest of his life he would have been a hunted man. On top of it he could not truly count on Harry's forgiveness. His job was complete and promises forfilled.

I don't think he gave into death mainly because he wanted to see Lily, but I do think he didn't try hard enough to stay alive. I think he was never entirely happy with his life. Always the lonely, mysterious person that no one completely trusted- except Voldy and Dumbledore, of course. XD

He knew he was not to survive the war. He was probably tired to live - remember he wanted to die when Lily died. Only the notion of righting a wrong he thought he had done to her kept him going on.

Yet, if he asked Harry to look at his eyes in memory of Lily, that probably meant that he was not to see her again in the after life, wherever and whatever that may be.

Also, the 2nd clause of the Unbreakable Vow he made with Narcissa (to protect Draco from any harm), made him choose to die at the hands of Voldemort (and Nagini). Plus his death had the advantage to earn time for Harry and send Voldemort on a false trail regarding the mastery of the wand.

Yes, I think that Severus embraced death with relief if not serenity.

I agree with everything LadyNottingham said.

I believe Snape embraced death because some part of him always knew he was going to die during the war But he could die with serenity knowing that he redeemed himself for his past mistakes.

I agree word for work with LadyNottingham!

I don't think he just embraced death because of the notion that he will get to see Lily again, but because he knew it was his time! He had made ammends for his mistakes, and ending up completing the last job Dumbledore gave him seconds before his death! He was finally leaving with a clear conscience, and for him I think it was a welcome relief!
As for Lily, I firmly believe that she will be with James in the afterlife or whatever comes after death, so it would be still be loving her from afar if it came to that just like it was in the world. The real accomplishment that death was bringing him was a peace of mind, and an escape from the world where he had done his due and so much more!
