I hate Cho! Fleur is way cooler, and way better looking! Also Fleur was talented enough to be in the Triwizard Tournament, while all Cho does is cry like a big baby! If they ever got into a fight Fleur would kick Cho's ass!

^They complain about her being all weepy in the fifth book, but that's normal. Would they have preferred for her to ecstatically happy after her boyfriend had been murdered?

I think that's a silly reason mostly because, as you said, her boyfriend just died. I think in the movie it was she who told Umbridge about the order and that's why they hate her. But in the books it wasn't even her. And even if it was, she's just a teen and if you're being harassed by a teacher like Umbridge, it's not unrealistic to cave in. I feel like the hate she gets is just unfair.

^^ I think it's more of a case that her and Harry were in a romantic date setting and she spent it crying about Cedric. Of course I don't begrudge her for being upset as anyone would be in that situation, but... time and place. It wasn't fair to lump it all on Harry in that scene. I mean it's been a while since I read the book so my memory might be foggy, but that's how I remember it.

Whilst not a fan of the character I do agree that the hate for her is over the top (I think the same with Ginny & even Lavender) and like you said people use reasons that didn't even happen in the book... and regardless she was under the influence of Veritaserum potion (truth telling) in the movie so it wasn't her fault whatever way you look at it. But at the same time you don't necessarily need overly "valid" reasons to dislike certain characters, sometimes ones just irritate you/ they're just not your cup of tea, sometimes badly written... but again I agree the hate is overboard.
