I fully realise that he turned out to be a good person deep down but that doesn't erase the fact that he was spiteful and jealous and hung out with death eaters and was cruel and cold throughout all the books.

Also, even if he regretted helping voldemort kill Harry's mother, he would not have hesitated to kill Harry's father.

I don't understand why everyone suddenly loves him so much rather than having the reaction of, "Well, he's not as bad as we thought."

I'm weirded out by all the Snape lovin'. I mean, yeah he turned out good but he's still a jerk that wouldn't have any good in him if it weren't for Lily.

Yeah I agree with you. I hated him through all the other books and then I found out "he's not as bad as we thought" like Tweenacat said.
I just feel a bit sorry for him. I definitely don't love someone who despises Harry.

Yeah, i agree with all 3 of you. I am weirded out by people saying that Snape is fantastic and that we should all love him unconditionally..
I just can't buy that. Yes, in the end, he was immensely brave, but that doesn't seem enough to redeem him of all the other horrible things he said and did to Harry throughout the other 6 years.

HE'S AWESOME! i always liked him. I mean the first book...i was like, ok he's bad, but no, it was quirrel. and then i kinda thought, well if dumbledore likes him i think he's good. i wasn't a hundred percent sure. then he killed dumbledore, and i was mad, but my favorite chapter in the deathly hallows was the snape part. i loved it. OH. and in the fifth book, my favorite chapter is when harrys goes and see;s snapes past. i've always loved reading about snape...

Well, I love his character in the book, completely necessary and great.

I always knew he was on the good side, but its hard to ignore all the times he was rude, mean, unfair, cold, cruel, etc. He was brave but not really a good person so I can't LOVE him.

I think I like this character from the books because he is the only one in shades of grey, he made mistakes when he was young, (he's the same age as Lily and James and they died at 21 which means he turned from Voldemort at 20 and a little young to be considered evil beyond hope)and spent the rest of his life paying for it and helped the Order and Harry a lot in the end

but in the epilogue harry says he was a brave man one of the bravest me he ever knew

he risked everything to redeem himself from what he was
and in the end it made him heroic

so of course i like him

His story is so tragic, I can't help it.

I fell for him from the first moment he appeared in Philisopher's Stone and stayed faithful even after HBP happened and before DH came out. With the last book I think I fell in love with him all over again. What's not to love?! He's powerful, intelligent, sarcastic (my favourite kind of humour), sexy, lonely, faithful, brave. Yes, he's also petty, spiteful and unfair but for me, it all adds to his charm.
