Undoubtedly Bellatrix is pretty much bad to her very core, and that's what we all love (or love to hate about her) but I think even Bellatrix can be a sympathetic character in some regards. And however minuscule I think there is some good in her but it comes out in a twisted way, that there are some redeemable qualities within her.

The main reason I can see Bella being a bit of a sympathetic character is because of her time in Azkaban. A drab, dreary, miserable place filled to the brim with sinister creatures that suck your soul out and rip away your memories whilst simultaneously making an already chilly prison cell grow frigid. Of course she bought this one upon herself but it's still a grim fate no less. A place that can drive the sane completely batshit.

And Bella was already unraveling. Which brings me to the next point; Bellatrix has always been unstable and not one person thought to intervene in any way. And if they did, the notion of going up against such a powerful family to get her some help was probably off putting. I find Bella to be sympathetic in that she was very much predisposed for evil. I mean it's one thing if the characters had done their best to try to put her in an institution where she could get help and it just didn't work out and another for them to just throw her right into Azkaban. Because there is very clearly something damaged in her. If she wasn't messed up before because of Azkaban she's pretty much beyond help now, I mean its pretty hard to repair a person's mental state after the person had been subjected to forgetting all good memories and having the bad ones play over and over and over. Not to mention the sheer terror of the look of the dementors alone. Furthermore as you mentioned Bella also already had a shitty upbringing I can't imagine that Azkaban would help her to feel those happy fluffy forgiveness feels. And then there's the fact that these people have magic; how do they not have advanced mental health care. I mean they have luck and love potions. What about something for people like Bellatrix and Sirius and even Tom Riddle? Or idk, Alice and Frank Longbottom...
I'd really like to hear the workings behind all of these things. Like is there some kind of road block that prevents magical medications?
Long story short I find that Bellatrix is sympathetic due in part to her mental aliment and the Wizarding World's poor handling of the mentally ill.

I mentioned her upbringing above. I do believe that this is another way in which Bellatrix is sympathetic. Based on the way Sirius spoke of his family I would imagine that it wasn't a healthy (at best) and unsafe (at worst) environment. It is a personal headcanon of mine--based upon Sirius' commentary--that Bella and her sisters were subjected to some type of abuse or another be it physical, mental, or both. If Rowling ever dives into it and this proves to be the case then there is definitely sympathy earned there.

Finally Bella's unrequited love has racked up some pity points. She spent 15 years in Azkaban and would (and did) die for him. But he can never truly return her affections due in part to how fractured his soul is. Sure she was one of his favorites but she was his favorite in the same way a chess master has a favorite chess piece. She was a pawn. Yes they had Delphi together but I feel as though their sex wasn't the product of love (not on Voldemort's end anyhow). For him it was more or less; she did some good things for my cause so I guess I'll reward her. For him it was nothing beyond sex, no feelings involved.
Not only this but I can't imagine that Voldemort treated her well after failures like not getting the prophecy. On various occasions she was subjected to verbal abuse like "I didn't come here to hear your sniveling" and the bit in Dark Lord Ascending where he calls out she and the Malfoys. In the movies we see her getting physically abused by him as well--this is scene when he shoves her over after she offers him a helping hand. I can imagine that the things that go on behind the scenes are less than pleasant and it completely wouldn't surprise me to hear that he sent a crucio or two her way at one point or another. And she's not gonna fight back either because she loves him that much.

So what kind of redeemable qualities do I see in Bella? I see loyalty, I see confidence, and I see strength.

Say what you will about Bellatrix but she's loyal to the bone. She has the loyalty of a Hufflepuff. She's a ride or die kind of woman. I've already discussed her 15 years in Azkaban; ya gotta be loyal to stand before a court and declare, "The Dark Lord will rise again, Crouch! Throw us into Azkaban; we will wait! He will rise again and will come for us, he will reward us beyond any of his other supporters! We alone were faithful! We alone tried to find him!" She was one of the few that didn't try to worm her way out with the imperio excuse. She may be loyal to the wrong causes but the fact that she's loyal at all is redeeming to me. After all she could be like Lucius; loyal to Voldemort until the trials roll around.
Bellatrix is also fiercely loyal to her family. I feel like she has a special loyalty to and care for Cissy. I mean she did accompany her to Snape's instead of just letting her go off to do something she thought was dangerous alone.

I suppose Bellatrix's confidence borders more on arrogance. But I still think that her demeanor is very respectable. Voldemort aside she doesn't let people walk all over her. And hand in hand with that she's a very fierce woman. The kind of character who can handle herself without needing to rely on anyone else. I say needing because I think she wants to rely on Voldemort. But without him around she can definitely hold her own.

I suppose I hold a rather unpopular opinion in that I think all of the above. But I figured I'd share no less.

I was asked to do this by lorythefangirl after I responded to her earlier one.

Pros
1. Most of them did believe they were choosing the winning side at the time
2. They would likely be killed if they refused, or otherwise punished.
3. If they come from old pureblood families which share the Death Eaters' beliefs, joining up would help maintain family harmony
4. If they're naturally malicious it gives them an opportunity to kill and torture

Cons
1. Most people wouldn't want to be forced to murder. They might be pushed beyond their own limits, e.g. Draco Malfoy.
2. They'd get imprisoned in Azkaban if caught, or could be killed in self-defence
3. Leaving isn't an option once you're in
4. After they lost, those who'd survived would lose favour even if they avoided punishment
5. Voldemort doesn't seem to be a nice boss
6. It's a story really, and in most stories, the bad guys do end up losing and being punished.
(From the view of Draco)
Have you ever seen something so beautiful as light? What ever it is that you saw it would never be as beautiful as the light I have just witnessed as it stands this light which holds my heart together in one piece ceases to know I existed. Even though we walked down the same corridors to such things as laborious lessons that I cannot wish to attend, she floats on cloud nine as she embraces her muggle-born ways that I Draco Malfoy mock her with my own undying love to her... the more she floats the more I fall and the only way that I can hold onto her and actually speak...

The two of us; Kaitlyn and I, walked through the large doors and into the Entrance Hall. The entrance Hall was crowded as it always was on the first day. Students of all years were entering in groups, leaving the First Years a little startled. They probably didn’t know where to go, what to do, whom to look for. I smiled to myself, we were just like that! Some five years ago, I realised that we had grown only when I saw the little ones.
“Cal? Caldera?” I turned towards Kaitlyn, who looked irritated.
I raised an eyebrow, “What did I do?”
“We were talking, remember?” she said, furrowing...

This speech was given by Cheryl Klein, a senior editor at Arthur A. Levine books (an imprint of Scholastic Inc.), and continuity editor for the American editions of Harry Potter (books 5, 6, and 7 I believe.) She made this speech and gave it at the Terminus 2008 Harry Potter conference in Chicago, Illinois. The speech is about Harry Potter and why we love it, using these four elements: character, voice, theme, and plot. Enjoy!

"Pheonix, I heard that a muggle called Joan Rowling wrote a book about me." Said Harry Potter one day.
"Harry, I know and I've read it. It seems that even though I'm just as famous as you, she doesn't mention me in the book. Oh yes, niether did she mention Lily." replied a girl sitting next to Harry. She had long dark brown hair and misty blue eyes, she was so beautiful. Actually, she's not just a girl, she is Phoenix White, Harry Potter's cousin.
Harry smiled and replied, "Lily, I think she is much more famous than the two of us. She is just so brave and loyal, it was such a comfort to know...

((Note: Even though this is classified as a fanfic, this is a true story, the story of one Potterhead, and the years in which I grew up.))

I'm proud to call myself a Potterhead. It's a title I've justly earned. Especially now. As our first year without Harry Potter draws to a close, all of us think back, back over the journey that brought us here.

My entrance into the world could hardly be called remarkable. The date of my birth wouldn't become widely known for several years. I was born on July 31st, 1993, at 1:25 in the morning.

The first few years of my life are nothing but a blur, now. You...

This text is not meant as critisism to anyone, but only to ponder how much wizards/witches really differ from muggles, and how much of it is only a trick of mind.

In HP related discussions and wikipedia sites, there are often speculations and thoughts painting the magical folk as more different from us than they actually are. I think such habit comes from how the books give a extreme general image; as if the two groups of people had some sort of basic difference with their entire existance.
And I think that somewhat misleading image comes from how no one of the main character trio grew up in...

Warner bro's and j.k Rowling have decided to let peple come to the Harry Potter studios ,where there is hogwarts ,diagon alley, hosmeade and anywhere else in the wizarding world . They show you how they do all the efects like how the brooms fly,the night bus and more.

They wanted hogwarts to look very real so they encouraged all the actors and actresses to carve their initials into the benches in the great hall and they hit the plates with a hammer to give them an authentic look.

I will be going to harry potter world so i will tell you how it was.

"HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX" (2007) Review

I usually tried to avoid reading reviews of movies I am interested in seeing in the near future. Instead of relying on the opinions of others, I prefer to form my own opinions. However, my curiousity got the best of me and I could not help but read several reviews and opinions on the latest cinematic release from the HARRY POTTER franchise - namely "THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX". Mind you, the story was never my favorite HARRY POTTER novel, but after the near travesty (okay, perhaps that description is a bit exaggerated) . . . after the slight...

Many of us have different views on one particular character, Draco Malfoy. Since the first movie and book I thought Malfoy was an arrogant snob. when I think back to that time, I want to slap myself silly. Yes, he was a bully those first few years, but that's why most love to hate him. In the fourth movie I saw the more humorous side of Draco. I love how he votes for the Champion from Durmdtrang. In the book Draco states that Father wants him to go to Durmstrang. We can only imagine why. Personally, when I look back I feel that Lucius wanted to send Draco to Durmstrang so Draco wouldn't become...
