How can you tell Fred and George Weasley apart?

If you mean visually, in the movies:
- George is taller
- George has a mole on his neck
- George's upper lip has a downward curve in the middle, like a heart. Fred's upper lip is straight. (Personally, I find the way they smile to be the easiest way to tell them apart.)
- Their eyes are different. George's are slightly bulgier. Fred's are darker.
- The tip of Fred's nose point slightly up, George's point down. Also, George has a slight bump on the bridge of his nose.
- Fred has higher cheekbones.
- And obviously, in Deathly Hallows, George is missing an
ear.

The Fred-on-the-left, George-on-the-right thing is not always true, so it's not very reliable, especially in still photographs which may easily be flipped.

If you mean how to tell them apart in the book, usually they'll be named, but if not: Fred tends to be the leader and is more impulsive. He can also be more brash, if not meaner. George is (relatively) calmer, more of a planner, and if any one of them expresses doubts about a given plan it'll usually be George.

Yes I think it's cuz he died and people loved BOTH of them, and it is sad now, because basically one part is missing :( because they are twins and are almost always seen together, people naturally put them together in their minds and always say Fred and George together. Not all people, but most.
Honestly, I can't tell them apart, but I am trying to learn to :) What I usually do is wait for some one to talk to them, cuz they will say there name usually :)

It's easy
Fred is always on (our) left and George is always on (our) right!
It helped me see which one asked Angelina to the dance in the GoF
I watched before I read the book so I wasn't very sure

I can't tell them apart. They are both equally genius, and I love the characters equally. They are also unique, but I can't tell the two apart. Their's is a special relationship, with no rivalry. I wish I could have that with my brother. I can't wait till the last two movies because George loses an ear, so you can tell them apart (finally). And I speak for everyone except the freaks when I say, we will miss Fred forever.

i can tell them apart, george is taller. and personally, i have always liked fred better, not just because he died.

Truthfully, I couldn't tell Fred and George apart in the forst few mvoies until they wore their sweaters their mother made for them. but once the 4th movie came out I realized Fred is always on the right and George on the left, because when they take the aging potion, i paid attention to who said what. :) Just my input.

Fred or George lost his ear in the last book before he died.

I feel bad because visually I can't tell the two apart, but in the books they are pretty different (not because it says who's talking). I like Fred more not because he died but he's more impulsive and carefree, whereas George is the cautious one (well, less than Fred anyway).

OK, I have only watched 1 movie but Fred is the one who normally thinks he's more good looking than George, read all the answers and put them together, you'll know how to tell them apart!

George is one ear short now.
Oh, and Fred usually got the best lines, either in books or in movies.

And it makes me feel bad because I always hate it when people can't tell me and my twin apart... I really should learn, just out of decency and comradery if nothing else.

I tend to find that Fred has slightly higher cheekbones than George does and George also has a tiny mole on his neck :P This helped me tell them apart quite a bit XD

Are we talking about Fred and George Weasley, or James and Oliver Phelps?
Fred seems to be more the one that comes up with the ideas...
I think James is slightly better looking. There are subtle differences, but... Not really anything that can be explained, if that makes sense...

This may be hard to spot, but Fred has brown eyes and George has hazel. I heard that Fred is more of the leader, and that's why (SPOILER) Jo killed him. By leader, I mean he seems to always talk before George, and I don't know why, but he just seems to be the leader, right? Sorry if I'm wrong, but I believe that George is a little taller then Fred. If it's not in that order, then it's the other way around. Then of course, theres the (SPOILER) 'One has no ear, and the other is dead.'

George has always been taller than Fred. Just look for the height difference

I attempt to tell them apart but theyre just too bloody brilliant to even try.

this is only avaliable in the 4th movie, but george has hair that is turned out and fred's hair is, obviously, turned in on the edge at the bottom

fred has a more rounded chin than george...

I've always been able to tell them apart for these reasons-
George is slightly taller
Fred normally speaks first and is louder
In the Deathly Hallows Fred has a green jacket and George has a purple one
George is more emotional as shown at Cedric's funeral, he is seen more sad than Fred.
If these aren't helpful, just don't bother trying the difference!
Because generally, people only like the Golden Trio and don't really care about the others so yah ☺

in the books there is no way to tell,of course that the
narration tells you who is who but until DH there is nothing mentioned that difference them
And i think Fred gets ranks higher cause he has more lines , and he seems just a little bit more mischievous than George
