Harry Potter Question

Until now, I never really wanted to read the books because I thought they might be too long to read but are they truly worth being read...?

It is possible that people asked this question before but anyways...So the thing is! I'm not a huuuuuuge fan of Harry Potter. I've seen the movies and I did like them but I do not go crazy about it. Although, there are a lot of things I do not understand about the story (probably because I have only seen the movies) and I feel as if I had missed a lot of parts =S I feel as if I had even missed 1 or 2 movies! And that really annoys because I do love HP and I want to understand. I mean I think the story IS interesting and it makes me curious... Moreover, there are some characters I ''met'' in the movies but from whom the movies do not give us a lot of information. I'm talking about Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, Luna etc... I know NOTHING about Luna, I hadn't noticed her before Harry Potter and the half-blood prince and I thought she was very funny in the movie but I knew NOTHING about her. There is also Remus do not really know but there is something that makes me curious about him and I really like this character. I do not feel like I've known enough about Sirius (even in HP3) and I really like this character too. And there is also, of course, Snape who really intrigates me and that I really like but that I don't know much about...
SO, TO RESUME: I don't know if I should really read the HP books? I'm really interested in some characters and also because I have the impression I'm missing lots of parts of the story when I see the HP movies (I feel kinda lost when I watch'em) but I don't feel I have the ''courage'' to read those books cuz they look long!

Well, start with the first book. It can get a bit boring, because it's the beginning and you know the plot pretty well, because the movie was basically the same as the book. And 2nd book is quite short and totally like the movie.
But after you come to the 3rd book, there's just a lot you get to learn. You'll also notice a lot of differences when t comes to the movies. The 4th book was pretty good, I have to say. Basically because I cried when Ced died, so that was a first. In the first 3 books you sort of don't cry at all.
I think you'll be pretty disappointed in the 5th movie, because you'll see how many things they left out. It's the longest of the books, and it CAN GET a bit boring, but don't give up!
Now, the 6th - one of my favorites! Funny, exciting, sad, interesting...you'll see!
And FINALLY - the 7th book. The absolute number one! It ties up everything pretty well and it really has everything. Every chapter is interesting; on every page something is happening; in every line you learn something!
So, there you go. You should read them - that's my recommendation. If you don't want to read them, it's ok, but you'll never loose the feeling that you're lost...

Nah, I mean, I totally get it. I've seen the first 4 movies before I read the books, so I felt like I was in another country where no one speaks English:)

The books include so much more than the films, you get the 'full story'. And you do learn a lot more about each of the characters.
Also although they are quite long (especially if you read them one after each other) they are what I would consider an 'easy read' (I don't mean that in a bad way).
I would definitely recommend that you read them :)

The books include alot of the information you were asking about, most of the movies only covered between half to three-quarters of what was in each book. (Not only did the movies leave out details of the scenes shown, they left out some scenes altogether)
Plus, they're written more from Harry's POV so you really get inside his head more and better understand him as a character and what he goes through.
Also, the books are very well-written and can be quite addictive. I had trouble putting any of them down. I'd definitely recommend them :)

Trust me the book only seem long, when you start reading them they will be so interesting you will finish in 3-4 days. Maybe even faster.
It's the most complex and most interesting series I've ever read. The best part is that you can read them a few times and it NEVER gets boring. Movies are great but they don't cover up a lot, and if you really want to get to know these characters you should read the books. And you will really enjoy reading them, they are so funny :D

ok, you soooo need 2 read the books because it sound like your missing out on a lot. i read the 1st 2 books in 1 day, the 3rd one in about 8 hrs, the 4th one in 1 day, the 5th one in 2 days, the 6th one in 1 and a half days, and the last one (i kept track more exactly..) 42 hours :) i've been so interested by them, i've read the whole series over again, and read the last book 2 more times :) the books are so interresting.

PS- the deathly hallows is my ULTIMATE favorite of the series because it ties together all of the foreshaddowing and details from the other books and puts it together in the perfect ending :)

URG! US covers much better. The ones in the UK make Harry look like some greasy nerd, Ron looks like a red-neck, Hermoine looks pink-cheeked and fat AND Dumbledore looks like some axe-wielding maniac...

My friend has been egging me to read the books for about two years. and for some unknown reason, i had refused or simply put it to later. but, once i've read it, i've seen how much i've been missing in my life and about knowledge in litterature. not only will the books allow you to comprehend the movies more easily, it will also make the movie itself more interesting; because you know stuff that happened in the books and some funny moments that weren't put into the movies. and so, you have a wider view of the story.
for the part of them being too big, i've heard of many people who weren't big readers, but thanks to harry potter, they have learned to love books and not be discouraged by thick novels.

You definitely have to read it!(well, in my opinion) If you think it takes too long for you to read the whole series, you may start with book 3 coz as above mentioned, book 1,2 are bascically the same as the movies.
It's a pity not reading it. Well, if you don't like reading novels...then that's another case..

Well I think it is worth it.I'm on the 5th book and I really like it.But the Harry potter books are really fun when you don't know whats gonna happen, still tho that doesn't mean that you can't read them after seeing the movies.Anyway if you read the books keep it mind that some details might be diferent than in the movies, and something else, if you ever get a little bored while your reading the books keep on reading and don't give up too easy.Oh and dont worry that the books are big, if you like them then you will get thru them.
