I am a Harry Potter fan, simply because I prefer good writing, deep characters, actual conflicts and beautifully crafted worlds over Twilight's content.

Well I already watch whole series of harry potter and probably one or two movie of twilight but that was enough to prove twilight was nothing if compared to harry potter

I was going to read twilight, bud I've heard enough to pretty much predict all of it, Ilove Hpand if you love it you will at least like the legend of Drizzt, be warned it is a long series, but try looking it up.over a year ago
Reading the Harry Potter series from start to finish. I've got my handy highlighter, so I can highlight the important sneaky references to later books and plot. I must say already all I'm saying is "I see what you did there J.K Rowling."

I would like to point out that there have been lots of good reasons as to why Harry Potter is better than Twilight but not a lot on why Twilight is better than Harry Potter.over a year ago
To be fair, it's all subjective. What's 'better' to one person is 'worse' to another. Personally l think HP is better and I have reasons as to why (most of which are something along the lines of 'Bellatrix is in it.') I think so. But others disagree and I'm sure they have their reasons.over a year ago
In my opinion, Twilight and Harry Potter are the primary reasons why there is even a young adult genre. They kept the genre alive when non-readers turned into avid readers. For that, they are both equally important, the rest is just a matter of opinion!
Posted over a year ago
lol YA genre already exist BEFORE twilight or Harry potter. they already have fans before this. the only difference is HP makes it popular enough for other media to take notice. just because you don't know YA before any of them doesn't meant it not existover a year ago
I think they're the primary reason YA fandoms exist as they do now. Not necessarily re genre itself, just how hey are perceived by people.over a year ago
harry potter is totally the winner on this because twilight taught me that i need to have a boyfriend to be any one in the world but hermione taught me that i am brave and strong woman. why do people like twilight i mean it is so simple that is is garbage even Robert Paterson says that it was a terrible exsperiance to be in those movies.

Harry Potter is better no contest. The fans are universal, of all different cultures and ages, Twilight is made for teenage girls and that's pretty much as far as the group spans. Harry Potter fans, I have noticed, belong to more then just the Harry Potter fandom, its very mixed, all of us have different books, movies, tv shows, etc. that we enjoy and we all come together through Harry Potter. You can't say the same for twilight. Harry Potter spans in armies far larger then the initial group.

Any Way, Harry Potter will reign supreme because we had Rob Pattinson first. and then he wasn't some sparky guy, he was a true man and we loved him better as Cedric than Edward.

Harry Potter is about facing your fears, having courage, and fighting aganist all odds. Twilight is about how hard it is to have two hot guys like you at the same time.

I swear to god, most of the people in this group are immature brats with a weird, obsessive love that blinds them from looking at the good qualities in both movies. I shall tip my hat to anyone and everyone that actually knows what they're doing in this debate.

I'd argue that Tom Riddle Jr. was reasonably handsome. But in comparison, even the Volturi doesn't give off the STAY THE BLOODY HELL AWAY OR DIE vibe that Emperor Palpatine or Voldemort gives.over a year ago
take away the love story in twilight and it's about a girl who moves to a town where it rain a lot. take away the love story in Harry Potter, oh wait, what love story?

Romione is ok... but really, I could find some (very rarely I admit) better fanfiction love stories than the canon HP. Of course, this would also depend whether or not you're looking for romantic love or platonic love. In other news, Janechester is still an acceptable ship.over a year ago
There are love stories in HP, they're just not the main idea of the series so they're not elaborated on as much as a normal one wouldbe.over a year ago
Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley? Harry Potter and Cho Chang? Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger? Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson? Ron Weasley and Lavender Brown? Yeah, that's right! Hello,
I'm doing a research on fan culture for my third year studies at Univeristy.
It would be great if a few of you could answer a fewquestions!
- What made you become such a huge fan of harry potter?
- Do you believe that interaction with other fans has increased your fandom ?
-Finally why do you believe that Harry Potter is better then Twilight ? & are they easily compared ?
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you :)

-My intrest in Bellatrix's character got me into it. -Yes and no, at first it actually pushed me away from the fandom and as I made friends with them ,y love for the books did increase. -I think HP is better because it's story line is more interesting in my opinion, the characters are better, Draco's hotness isn't discussed on every other page, and our Bella is far far better. I think they can.over a year ago
1) Snape's character. 2) Yes, being able to discuss the books and finding out that I wasn't the only one who was not particularly enamoured with the main characters and being able to share thought, pictures, fanart, etc with other like minded individuals, has allowed me to be exposed to more facets of the fandom, to delve into and to enjoy my fandom to a greater extent 3) I don't think it's that much better than Twilight, I don't think they are easily compared apart from the fact that they're both YA boooks and are both fantasy books . I read Twilight when I'm in the mood for a light romance with a happy ending and HP when I'm in a slightly darker mood believe it or not as I'm generally more interested in Snape's tragic story that that of the golden trio.over a year ago
I think Harry Potter is the best because there are already too many vampire love stories in the world. I'm getting sick of them. But, if both subjects bore you, maybe read "Alice in Zombieland: Off with their heads" instead. It's a great book about zombies and stuff.

I am concerned about the quality of Harry Potter fans here lately (or those who argue in defense of Harry Potter). They used to be a lot better at discussion. I know I found a large portion of the tactics to be tasteless, but at least they said something of substance, but now, all we seem to get is "How is Edward even born?" or "Harry Potter is good, unlike Twilight". Have we really run out of things to say?
Oh well.
I ran out of things to say months ago.

Why not compare them. They are both popular pieces of literature, and some people enjoy the debating. I enjoy the debate, so long as people don't go nuts. And of course the wizards aren't fairies, nor are the Cullens. Whilst the Cullens do sparkle in the sun they are vampires, not fairies.over a year ago
^ What she said. Refusing to debate the two series because you think one series is filled with "glittering fairy princesses" is ridiculous.over a year ago
I´m not even gonna join this spot, ´cause it feels like a crime to even compare those two:) I mean..Twilight??! For the love of God! HP FOREVER<3
Posted over a year ago
Me too. Diamonds sparkle, so logically, people with diamond skin would also sparkle. I think it makes more sense than burning or dying because the sun is good and vampires have evil souls, or whatevr the reason is.over a year ago
! knew that, but Dracula wasn't really the first vampire. The aversion to the sun started with Nosfaratu (whatever his name is). the writer of that movie changed it to being killed by the sun so he caould tiptoe around Stoker's copyrights. Anyways, Dracula wasn't actually weakened by the sun, he was weakened by daylight hours, even in the dark.over a year ago
I wasn't saying he was the first vampire, just the first to have an aversion to the sun or daylight or whatever is what I meant. What I meant was that there's nothing inherent about vampires that means they are affected by the sun in any way; it always annoys me when people call that a 'flaw' in twilight - it's not. And I thought Dracula just lost his power in the day, so I guess you could say he was strengthened by the night as much as weakened by the day.over a year ago
Some things I've been seeing around the internet have been cracking me up lately.
People getting angry at the Breaking Dawn part 2 TV spots because they say "The motion picture of the decade", and saying "Excuse me, but Harry Potter *blah blah blah*..."
That's great and all, to think Harry Potter is the greatest whatever of the decade, but this is a very common phrase amongst movie trailers and TV spots. I've never ever seen anyone complain about any other movie calling
Posted over a year ago
What really pissed me off is how Bella got everything she wanted in the end. She was suppose to sacrifice her family, best friend, future children, and sanity (for a couple decades). Instead, she got a "perfect" child, her dad, her best friend, and total control over her lust of blood. Then, we're all excited about the big battle against the Volturi… and it never happened. WTF?!! NOT cool. At least the final climax in Harry Potter HAD a battle. (Which was pretty awesome). HP all the way. :D

@ tsmith120: Having a bit of a temper is not a *noteworthy* flaw. Ginny gets angry when people annoy her, oh wow! That's not a flaw. In fact her temper is not depicted as a bad thing in the books, rather it seems to be used to reienforce the message that Ginny is a strong willed girl who shouldn't be trifled with. His dead loved ones did returned through an implausible way ie the resurrection stone where they then proceeded to talk to him and reassure him they are happy, always with him and are now in fact in a better place. All neatly sorted at the end so he can go on with his perfect life where he gets the job of his dream, the perfect wife, a beautiful large loving family, his wand back, respect, wealth, wisdom, good looks etc, etc. Where in the book does it tell you about Umbrige's, the elves', centaurs' and werewolves' fates? Where in the book does it mention what Hermione and Kingsley did? BTW sorry for the tardy response, been away where there's no Internet.over a year ago
But makes a book great is the moral of the story or the sympathy/love you feel toward a charcter. Harry Potter teaches the importance of bravery, love and friends while I feel like Twilight teaches you that if you sacrifice your family and friends, everything will turn out fine and everyone will live happily ever after. Not very realistic, in my opinion.over a year ago
^What?? Didn't you just say on your own post that Harry Potter is all about sacrifice and Twilight has "no loss, no sacrifice". And now you're saying that it's not okay for Twilight to have sacrifice and a happy ending? Sorry, but I'm confused.over a year ago
If you happen to prove someone wrong when making your point, or if they made a mistake, especially in a fierce/tense argument, would you gloat at them a little after pointing it out? Or jibe them? Just curious.

I'll be honest. It Depends on their initial tone. I can't stand people who simply parrot a view they heard from someone else without examining it or the facts first and then voice it with the arrogance of someone sitting on the loftiest of horses. To those people, I love to rub it in. I know, tis a weekends of mine I actually enjoy indulging in.over a year ago
It depends on how offensive I find their views. I try not to as a rule, but when emotions get involved I find it difficult to walk away. My trigger is how objetionable I find the other person's view.over a year ago
I saw some pictures that make me think that the people who hate the last half of Breaking Dawn (for reasons other than the confrontation) are going to really really really hate the ending of the movie.
I'm eager to see the reactions, though.

Let's look at the facts.
Harry Potter can fly
Harry Potter spends a lot of time in the forest.
Harry Potter can do magic
Harry Potter can control nature
Harry Potter carries around a pouch of powder that helps him transport
That spells FAIRY to me!
I don't know why JK Rowling even calls them wizards. They're so obviously fairies is disguise.

Harry Potter can fly on a BROOM, Harry Potter spends most of his time at HOGWARTS, not the forest. Yes, Harry Potter can do magic. Harry Potter CANNOT control nature. Harry Potter DOES NOT carry around a pouch of powder that helps him transport. Get your facts straight before you make false accusations.over a year ago

I don't really know. I don't hate Twilight. Like wise I don't see why some people hate HP so much. I guess it's just all about opinions not everyone loves Twilight/HP there are bound to be people who despise the series.over a year ago
Lots of reasons. But mainly I think it's because it's immensely popular and it's a genre that was enjoyed and appreciated traditionally by a smaller section of people - women who liked escapism romance, but all of a sudden became more mainstream. Most people who criticise it IMO don't understand the appeal of the books or the standard "rules" such a book follows. It's a bit like the hysteria there was when role playing games first came to people's attention. RPGs were traditionally enjoyed by a small group of generally young boys/teens who liked playing fantasy war-games. When it became a bit more mainstream, the media and most people who didn't understand it went on and on about how it was leading kids into devil worshiping and influencing impressionable children and teens into acts of violence. When in reality it was just a game that provided a bit of escapism fun.over a year ago
Why is it that Harry Potter fans can never handle criticism of their favorite books? All they can manage to do is insult you for thinking differently from them and try to get back at you?

if youre referring to what I said before on the wall, that wasnt because you think differently, that was because you have an attitude, and you were acting like anyone who likes Harry Potter is beneath youover a year ago
Naw, probably refering to my polls. Bit of a double standard there. I don't see why I'm not allowed to make polls like the ones made prior. Honestly I think I voiced my opinion on the polls made by him/her respectfully, do let me know if I was being rude with those comments, that wasn't my intent. Considering I had admitted I wasn't a fan of Harry/Ginny and I hated the sorting concept I'd say I can handle criticism. I'm just a tad annoyed/offened by the assumption that all Harry Potter fans are brats who insult and yell at people and that people think every comment of ours was meant to be defensive or rude. Honestly (and I don't mean to sound childish) I am starting to remember why i left this spot over the summer...over a year ago
